Question Trailer Downloads - no audio

I downloaded "Across the Universe" trailer from the Playstation Store and there is no audio.
All of my other downloads play audio. I checked my audio settings and all formats are enabled. My HTS is compatible with all of the available formats.

Has anyone else encountered this? Does anyone know the audio format of this trailer? It displays 5.1 ch audio.

All of the Blu-ray disc downloads available on the Playstation Store do this.

The trailers presented in 5.1 ch have no audio. Superbad trailer is presented in 2 ch and has audio.

Curious...

You said that it displays 5.1 audio when you press the START button? Does it say AVC for video?

If both is true, then it MIGHT just hint at an upcoming new feature.

It says AAC 5.1 ch. The other downloads say AAC 2 ch. and they have audio output.

That's why I say it may mean an upcoming new feature.

So far, the only software that can play 5.1 AAC MP4 files is Quicktime. If you've download a 5.1 HD trailer from the net onto your PC/Mac and you convert it to MP4 to play on the PS3, the file will 5.1 audio downconvert to mono by default or stereo if you go into the details. Quicktime Pro WILL NOT let you convert a 5.1 .MOV into a 5.1 .MP4.

The fact that the PS3 recognizes an 5.1 MP4 may be a hint of a future firmware that can enable 5.1 AAC MP4s to be played. If so, SWEET! Imagine playing the latest trailer in digital surround sound!

Of course, the 5.1 AAC will have to be re-encoded on the fly to DTS/Dolby Digital for those with optical audio connection.

I found a way to get the audio to play. If you go to your Sound Settings and unselect the AAC box, you will then be able to hear the sound. Just a warning though; it sounds like crap.

Thank you! I would have never thought to deselect AAC to listen to an AAC track.

Default PS3 AudioProblems

I've been having some problems lately with a couple of the videos I downloaded off the Playstation Network. Some of the videos have no sound. Others work fine (the Wall-E one I just downloaded), and others dont. Is anybody else experiencing this problem? Just recently it happened with the 30 Days of Nigh Bluray Trailer that i got off the Network?

Can anybody help me with this?

I downloaded MKII from the playstation store and it had no sound with my SONY HT receiver, but since I got the ONKYO 605, I now have sound from MKII. Make sure that your settings is on bitstream and not LPCM.

Nevermind, I fixed it. I went into my Optical Sound Settings and unchecked the AAC tab. Does anybody know why it works now, when i uncheck the AAC tab? I'm confused..

I'm still confused about unchecking the AAC tab.. is this going to affect sound for other things in the future? Should I recheck the AAC tab or leave it off?

Holy crap! 5.1 trailers!

I dl'd the Across the Uniiverse BD trailer the other day and had no sound. Can't remember any specifics at this point. Looked pretty much like the Movie trailer so I just deleted it and forgot about it. After seeing this thread i just went and dl'ed it again.

PS3 > HDMI > AVR

HDMI otput set to PCM

All audio formats selected (auto)

5.1

The PS3 display shows AAC 5.1 and AVC video.

Hello all,

Like most of you I have my ps3 output video via hdmi and sound via optical to my Pioneer HTS. I have also noticed that some blu ray trailers, such as Across The Universe, will not produce any audio and some, such as Legend of Zorro. The real problem is that ps3 really does have the "latest and greatest" tech under the hood (umm...is that really a problem?) but AAC 5.1 audio is the main antagonist.

Old HTS or should I say most non hdmi equipped HTS like mine cannot decode AAC 5.1, the limit is AAC 2.0, which is why some trailers produce sound and others don't. Most of the newer hdmi equipped devices, except Xbox 360, can decode AAC 5.1. So the only options I see are (1) buy an hdmi equipped HTS (2) run both video and sound to the TV via hdmi (3) deselect the AAC option in the XMB (4) wait for Sony to release a firmware update that addresses this issue.

When you deselect ACC the ps3 automatically down-mixes the audio into stereo, (even though the display still says AAC 5.1 it's just saying what the original source is). That means your AAC 2.0 trailers will be played in stereo. I know stereo output sucks (I want at least Dolby digital!) but I guess that's what pro logic II is for. If you feel like you're missing some high quality audio you can always just reselect AAC when you are done watching the trailer but it seems as if all the new BD trailers hitting PSN are now encoded in 5.1 so it could be more trouble than it’s worth. Guess I gotta start saving up for a new HTS system now

I hope this helps.

Xbox Live: E Rice

do I even have to say it...you know the future is blu!

IF your receiver or TV can decode AAC bitstream, check this box in the Sound settings. If not, uncheck it or otherwise you won't be able to hear anything.

By checking the box, the PS3 will decode the sound and transmit the audio in PCM.

Apart from not decoding DTS HDMA, I think PS3 is an excellent machine.

The problem with no sound is caused by people checking the AAC option box when their sound equipment can't handle the AAC bitstream.

That's a good idea because otherwise you can't be enjoying BDs and games the way they should be.

Just remember to let the PS3 decode the audio to 5.1 PCM.

Not a good idea.

If you hook up your receiver using optical and it doesn't have the ability to decode AAC, this is how it should be done.

I think there may be an option for that in the future.

PREVIOUSLY, Quicktime Pro does not allow you to convert 5.1 MOV files to 5.1 MP4 files. It will downmix the 5.1 audio to stereo. NOW with the latest update, QPro allows the passthrough option. (I have to re-convert all of my trailer files now)

So if you have a HDMI receiver, you are lucky to be able to hear the latest trailer in 5.1 audio. If you have QTPro, even better.

Maybe in future updates, SCE will allow the PS3 to transcode the AAC files into Dolby Digital or DTS.

Nice. l just DL'd the latest QT update yesterday---great to find out this functionality is included.

Too lazy to re-convert my existing trailers, though: I'll just be happy for 5.1 on the rest of them from now on.

Damn Apple for making QT Pro for PC and Mac seperate products. I have it for PC but I'm reluctant to upgrade on Mac now because it's been so long since they did a major QT update.

£20 for the upgrade is pretty steep.

Well, it makes sense, if you don't have a reciever that plays AAC .
