Default Tarzan on Blu ray???

Im not a big Tarzan fan but there are some films that i'd like to see updated.

How much Tarzan is BD?

And is there a demand for earlier ones to be upgraded?

Any hardcore Tarzan fans out there?

Not sure about the live-action films, but Disney's 1999 animated film Tarzan is rumored to be coming out on Blu-ray this year.

Interesting you brought this up. When I work out at the gym I have started to listen to books -- so far I have listened to Tarzan the Terrible and right now -- Tarzan of the Apes. I was thinking just yesterday -- strange coincidence -- that Tarzan of the Apes might be a great movie for Peter Jackson or Terrance Mallick to bring to the screen -- becasue it should be brought to the screen in its purest form. Tarzan of the Apes is a masterpiece of a story -- but I have never been impressed with earlier movie versions.

If any version would benefit from a blu-ray reliease, it should be the first Weismeuller movie when he meets Jane -- Maureen O'Sullivan was gorgeous in the movie.

By the way -- I just read a couple of weeks ago that Cheetah from the Weismueller movies died at the age of 80!

I recommend Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes if you want to see a "realistic" take.

But yeah i would like to see someone reboot Tarzan again and try to make him relevant for a new generation. I dont know if he's believable in 2012. But if they did a period piece that would be fine by me. A big Trilogy and wrap it up?

Tarzan and Valley of Gold is what i'd like to see in BD.

I dont mess with any of the modern animated versions except the Filmation ones of the the early 80's.

I'd be very happy if Warner went back and released the Weissmuller films on Blu. The DVDs weren't that long ago, so presumably there are HD masters in the can?

Then again, they have been releasing all their Tarzan stuff on Archive Collection DVD-R only for the past several years, so it looks like they're not too keen on the character.

I'd wager Greystoke isn't too far off. Probably as a basic, no frills release.

Warner also holds the Casper Van Dien Tarzan from the 90's, which never got a DD5.1 release on DVD (the LaserDisc was 5.1).

Disney's Tarzan was also a good entry, and I'm sure it will make a stunning Blu-Ray.

Heck... Just give me all the Tarzans on Blu.

If your talking about Disney's Tarzan, it is coming out in other countries, which means its most likely coming 2 blu this year.

Actually there's some controversy around this, that it wasn't the same animal as the owners claimed.

How disappointing -- don't know what to believe anymore.

Tarzan sits in a tree for 15 minutes of screen time, contemplating.

His thoughts are expressed as a voiceover......in chimpanzee.

I know -- it would be a challenge for a director/screen writer, but the book is actually exciting and there's quite a bit of action.

That could be asked of a lot of films. However, I usually want to be entertained, believability is not a primary concern when I choose a movie. Besides, I am not expecting much out of a film depicting a man dressed in a loin cloth swinging on a vine from tree to tree.

I dunno. As a sci-fi comic book fan i can go with the fantasy, but Tarzan, if modernized, might not translate in 2012.
This was written in simpler times. 1912 is a long time ago.

Is there any untouchable jungles in Africa in 2012 where some rich kid can grow to manhood and not be spotted by modern day technology?

Lets say they get really serious w/ it and given it the Batman Begins treatment. Your trying to mix fantasy and reality. Its not Sky Captain.
African Tribal wars are fought w/ guns and not w/ spears and blowguns.

Avatar had shades of Tarzan in it and that was a total fantasy realm.

Im sure it can be done, but im just saying translating the original book to our day might be hard. Its probably safer to make it a period piece. But then you couldnt sell action figures.
