Default Black fabric

I was wondering where to get a good black fabric to put behind my setup?

Currently the walls in my room are white and i wanted something like a black cloth like material to hang behind everything.

I've heard that http://www.joann.com/ is a good place for fabric online.

Personally when I'm looking for fabric I prefer to go in-store to fabric shops so I can see and touch what I'm buying.

Would a black velvet work for what you're trying to accomplish? Do you know what dimension you need? You may need to sew some pieces together if you need a big piece as the bolts fabric come on are limited in width.

If considering velvet remember it is a directional material and need to take that into consideration if sewing pieces together.

This is a good idea.....I put curtains behind and to the side of my front soundstage area and it improved the TV's contrast/color nicely (I have white walls as well). Plus, I have them on curtain runners attached to the ceiling, so I can easily open them up when I need to get back there. Pics are in my gallery.

Yeah i would rather go into a shop so i can get a good look at it. Velvet has a rough texture right? I think that could work. Something thick.

I would need about 10' wide and 8' high.

That looks good, fors.

Thanks, and it comes in handy too.....as it hides that rats nest of cables(and my Belkin Power Conditioner) that I have behind the TV stand and to the subs and speakers as well.

I would probably consider velvet a smooth texture as opposed to rough... but it certainly has a texture, in comparision to a linen or cotten.

Velvet is really good at absorbing light but as you aren't really using the curtains for light absorbtion it may be overkill.

I don't believe you are going to find any fabric 8 or 10 feet in length so you are either going to have to sew or find a seamstress At this point I'm thinking you will be best served to start looking at curtains like fors suggested as opposed to buying raw material and making your own... unless of course you happen to be good at sewing.

I think you could even check a local walmart for curtains, I believe you'll find some there.
