He has a pretty healthy ratio of mainstream and ambitious projects:

Hunger
Fish Tank
Shame
Twelve Years A Slave [Steve McQueen's new 2013 project]

Inglorious Bastards
First Class
A Dangerous Method
Haywire
Prometheus

I've got so many current 'favorites' I can't justify picking one over the other.

Really? That's a little disappointing... The tumultuous relationship (and probably the more interesting relationsip) between Freud and Jung should have been the focus of the film

In my opinion, this relationship is the paramount focus of the film. (slight-->)
[Show spoiler]Knightley's character ends up becoming a pawn of sorts in the mental headways forged between Freud and Jung, and you could even read that she's 'sacrificed' of sorts by Jung in this battle between the two.

This is one of the best-directed films I've seen this year. It plays like a chess game, with scenes constituted as chess-matches: Cronenberg's shot composition and the skillfull underplay of the leads (besides, obviously, Knightley, who's also very, very good here) is incredible. Cassel's presence in particular looms, even though he's only in the film for a few scant moments.

It does move very quick, maybe too quick - I would have been interested in seeing some looser editing; but a surprising amount of territory is mined. If you're a fan of any of the talent involved you won't be disappointed.

Depends on whom you ask Frued or Jung. If you ask Frued he would either say that your gay or have an Oedipus complex - that was his answer to EVERYTHING. If you ask Jung he'd probably say you were stressed out and tired of people running your life eventhough you scared of them (the ants). Granted this is all me trying to remember coursework from 3+ years ago.

That was actually a joke, the giant forks I think are a Pink Floyd thing, but I do constantly have dreams that I win the lottery. I think that's because I'm always afraid I'll run out of money and be on the street.

Seeing how this one was really beautiful on the big screen (a lot more visually interesting than I expected; agreed about Cronenberg's expert direction/composition), I can only imagine it'll look great on BD.

They really like putting Keira front and center on cover art for movies she's in. Reminds me of the Never Let Me Go cover, where her face took up most of the cover even though she had more of a supporting role.

This is a blind buy for me. I'll watch anything with Michael Fassbender in it (even Haywire..) so this will be a day one purchase.

I haven't been a fan of the posters and promotion done for this film and it seems that they still went with bland cover art for the release.

My reasons would total 7: In addition to David Cronenberg, Michael Fassbender, and Vincent Cassell, I'd add writer Christopher Hampton, actor Viggo Mortensen, cinematographer Peter Suschitzky, and composer Howard Shore...that is, if forced to buy blind. Having seen the film, no such leap of faith is required. Another mesmerizing achievement from Canada's Kubrick.

But boy did it ever get the stick this awards season...

Don't get me wrong she is beautiful, but she needs a bit more meat on her bones.

It sure did, particularly in terms of Direction and various Acting nods.

And 'Canada's Kubrick', what an apt descriptor for Cronenberg.

Agreed, yes. But looking past that she does give quite a good performance in this film. I was pleasantly surprised, and it makes me interested to see if Cronenberg will get Robert Pattinson to flex some untapped acting muscle in his upcoming picture.
