China Farewell My Concubine - February 11

HPM release. Mandarin TrueHD 2.0 with English subtitles. BD50. February 11 release date.

Packaging appears to be a digipak. Amazon CN and Gouduo have pages up for it now. I assume Yesasia will stock it at some point.

Oh, very nice. I considered getting the French Blu-ray. Good thing I waited.

Thanks AnimeOnBlu.....most useful bit of news I've read on the Asia Blu-ray forum in months.

My guess is this will be the same PQ as the German and French releases which have gotten middling reviews. I hope Raise the Red Lantern follows soon.

I sent an email to Yesasia asking if FMC will be stocked or if not, if it can be specially ordered. I'll post here when I get a response.

Amazon China now has it for roughly $17. Add to it the shipping, you're looking at $22.63.

I've been meaning to review it once I finish watching it. I only watched half - need to see the rest. Overally, I was unexpectedly pleased with this release. But if I had to grade it for now:

VQ: 4/5 (with a slight curve due to crappy previous DVD release)
AQ: 3.5/5
English subs: 8.5

I was really expecting awful English subs since it's a mainland China release, but the English subs are very good with barely any grammar mistakes.

From the trailer, it only looks good because it's not the usual Indian crap, but it doesnt look that good as a movie in general. Why did u like it?

here are some screenshots of the packaging for this release:
http://www.yam-mag.com/reviews/produ...china-bluray/#

i was wondering. if i order it though YeSasia, is there any danger of the disc being scratched or misplaced, since it comes in a bag?

and also, does anyone know where I could buy the steelbook edition that is described here:

Does anyone know why this isn't sold anymore in Yesasia?
also in Amazon it seems it comes in a plain plastic case:
http://www.amazon.cn/%E9%9C%B8%E7%8E...8847440&sr=8-3

how could I find this in a logical price?

I got the Yes Asia release and the overall transfer is noticeably better than my old DVD but still well below the quality of the better US transfers. The packing was however ridiculous as it fitted in nowhere so I re-packed it and threw the original away. That is probably why it is no longer on offer! I wish we could get the rest of the Gong Li films in reasonable Blu-ray transfers, I do not expect a lot on PQ as they are old but the DVDs are all mostly terrible with wrong aspect ratios, bad subtitles etc. etc.
