Great idea! Hopefully this thread will be devoid of the "I hate Jar Jar" and "I hate Geoge Lucas" and other such nonsense. I'm eager to see the actual 3D impressions. The review you posted is pretty favorable.

I haven't read the whole review, but I already find it pretty hilarious from the start

Quote:
Today marks the official release of Star Wars Ep1 3D...I saw it at a midnight screening and LOVED it..(mini review..)...at its heart, remember, this is an innocent, family adventure movie...but I now have greater respect for it because of how the quality of the movie is enhanced by the 3D in such a way that the detail in every scene comes to life and gave me a greater appreciation of all the hard work, imagination and craftsmanship involved in its creation.
I'm sorry but I don't think 3D can make a turd into gold. It's just turd in your face now. And I'm not trying to troll or anything here, but odds are if you loved the movie in 2D, you'll love it in 3D. I just don't buy anyone who may not have liked it in 2D, having some epiphany because it's in 3D now. I liked it when I was a kid, but looking back, it was a terrible addition to the franchise and could have been much much much better. I don't see how 3D will improve the quality of the movie itself. I can see it improving the experience of watching it, but those two things are very different.

Agreed. It may enhance the podrace, but that was already one of the few scenes in the movie that I liked. 3D makes no difference in terms of the sh-tty performances, the cartoonish CGI, or the almost non-existent plot. It also does nothing to improve upon the debacle known as Jar Jar Binks.

I can't imagine that people who hate TPM would waste their time, money, and energy going to see TPM 3D. (You know, the whole "fool me once" thing...) So you're right -- if you like it going in, chances are you'll like it coming out. The question is: is the 3D good?

EDIT: And....4 posts in we get the Jar Jar reference! You can't make this stuff up folks!

Arguably the worst aspect of TPM(aside from Jake Lloyd) and you expect me to not bring it up?

I expect people to move on. It's been 13 years. Unless Jar Jar's farts materialize in 3D in your face in the theater, it's pretty irrelevant to the thread I think (not to mention played out).

I'm going tomorrow to the noon show. A bunch of us were hoping for a midnight show tonight but our local Rave is not doing one. I'm sure the 3D will look great. They worked on it for many years. Can't wait till tomorrow.

If people didn't feel this ridiculous insatiable urge to be negative, we wouldn't have that problem. But we're not that good yet apparently. We can't have a discussion about how the 3D works. No, we have to bring in things that have been beaten to death for more than a decade.

I am sorry for the OP because this thread will be railroaded from it's original intent and perverted into yet another "Bash George Lucas and anything associated with him" thing. I happen to like the Star Wars Movies and do not hate George.

Too bad it's already headed in that direction.

I agree. I'm not a big fan of TPM and I don't have any desire to see the movie in 3D. However, there are people out there who do like the movie and don't want to constantly hear that many people think it's a terrible movie.

For me, it would be having people constantly post in the Living Daylights BD thread that Timothy Dalton is a terrible 007. I get that a lot of people don't like him as a Bond, I do and if people constantly posted that and contributed nothing else to the discussion it would get tiresome over time.

That being said, enjoy Phantom Menace!

I'm not here to harp on casting/character choices, but I would like to point out that no where in the OP's [original] post or thread title is there any indication that the thread is soley for the discussion of the quality of the 3D conversion. As a matter of fact, the only mention of 3D is in the title of the movie. As such, I see no reason why you wouldn't expect this type of discussion.

I am going to see this Saturday morning. It will be my first ever 3D experience, since I have been anti-3D this entire time. Not saying others can't enjoy it, to each their own...just never thought it would appeal to me. I still don't see myself ever being interested in having it inside my living room, but I decided if I was ever going to give it a try, Star Wars was it.

As for Phantom Menace, yes it is the turd of the Saga, but I still find it to be a highly entertaining film. I have watched it 3 or 4 times since I got the blu rays in September, I actually just laugh off the horrendous writing and acting issues because the scenes that work for me....[really work for me.

I'm in total agreement, though I see the negative posts have already hit. That didn't take long.

Personally, I'm pretty indifferent to 3D in general. But there's no way I'm passing on the opportunity to see the entire Star Wars Saga on the big screen one more time. And since I'm going to be there regardless, here's hoping the 3D conversion turns out solid.

I had a friend who went to watch it at midnight, he said that a lot of the scenes where in 2D and they only bothered to convert a few action scenes in 3D, the only part that was impressive to him where the opening titles

Hm, that doesn't sound right to me. I can't imagine they'd half-ass it after working on it for so long. I wonder if it's that the 3D was just more pronounced in those action scenes making the others seem like they were just in 2D?

I agree this may be the last time we see them on the big screen so lets all just enjoy it.
