Hi
I am going to buy a playstation 3 to use as a bluray player because i have been waiting for AGES on the panasonic BD30 to come out in the UK but it hasnt and i am gettin fed up waiting and the PS3 seems to be very popular and has great PQ etc. So so you all think that the HDMI cable i use with it will make a difference? I have seen ones that cost loads and some that only cost £20 so i was wondering will it make a difference? Because i have read the official PS3 HDMI cable is very good and its only £20. |

Those ones that are really expensive have lots of shielding and other such protective material. That was really important on older cables that carried analog signals. HDMI only carries digital signals so you don't need to spend scads of money on an HDMI cable. Go for something less expensive, you definitely dont need anything like monster here. http://www.monoprice.com

A lot of people on this site will tell no it doesn't matter and direct you to cheap cable sites like monprice and bluejeans . I have tried monoprice and the cable was cheap I got what I paid for , and then went and bought a new cable from monster when the monoprice cable fell apart in my hand when I disconnected it when I was moving my system to a different room . No problems with my monster cables and I do enjoy the free replacement warranty for life on their cables .From what i have noticed its all personal preference and if you are happy with a cheap cable than buy it and enjoy , if you want the warranty and peace of mind spend a little more and forget about it .

The difference between low and high cost HDMI cables is mostly in the materials and workmanship. One person just told us a cheapie fell apart.
Cheap will get it done, but may not stay in one piece. Is that really a gold conductive surface or simulated with a brass? Does it say it has gold contacts? The Monster stuff is high grade, but possibly also over kill as you do not see a difference in the two cables. 1.3 compliant HDMI cable may have more shielding or slightly thicker wires to carry the HD signal. Sure, it seems fine at first until you start to max out the bandwidth and you can't get the signal through on the thinner cable. I try not to go too cheap with cables. Engineers design this stuff within certain specs for a reason. They don't price it, marketers do. |

For short cable runs, I see zero point in getting ripped off by spending a ton on HDMI cables. I have several $6 monoprice cables and their build quality is very high. Save the $$ and put the money in the bank, or buy a few movies.

When it comes to a DIGITAL cable, zeroes and ones, yes I really want to use a $5 cable, especially when it performs IDENTICALLY to a $500 cable.

Just make sure it's a 1.3 compliant HDMI cable and you should have no Problems out of it. However I would recommend getting a good Surge Surpressor. Inland makes some great ones for about 1/4 of what you would pay for a Monster One with the exact same specs.

Monprice for the win. I have 4 short (3 to 6 foot) cables connecting sources (x360, DMP-BD30, HD Tivo, HTPC) to Onkyo-875 and one long (15foot) cable connecting to the display.
Never had one problem. All the cables cost combined cost less than 1 "monstrously overpriced" cable. To those that advocate $80, $90, $120, $200+ HDMI cables do you spend the same amount of money on ethernet cables, or DVI cables, or sata cables, or usb cables? Cat6 can push 1Gbps 100m (330ft) at <$0.20 per foot. Cat6e can push 10Gbps up to 30m at <$0.50 per foot. If "superior build quality", "oxygen free" and "blah blah blah specmanship" is SO IMPORTANT then you don't IT departments like the one I work for wire entire buildings with monster ethernet cable? If it is needed for HDMI then it would be needed for eterhernet, SATA, usb, firewire, DVI, fiberchannel, SAS, SSCI, <every digital protocol ever made>? |

The monoprice cables are well built, do the job, and are much cheaper then the rip-off Monsters.
I have had zero problems with their cables and will continue to buy as needed. Monoprice is shifting their HDMI cables to 1.3 (tested). Last edited by cawgijoe; 02-05-2008 at 10:51 PM. |

Do any of you work in an audio video environment? Well as many think the monoprice cables are fine and even have had one of your own buy a cable that fell apart and how many of you make the argument that its a digital cable cheap cables are sub par, i bet all you monoprice cable buyers dont know that every 7ft of a digital cable their is a signal loss? Did ya? well anyways buy a cheap mono price cable and then get a high end monster or any monster at that and take sciors and cut both cables in the middle and peel back the jacketing and see how many more conductors (cat 5/6 cabling) strands their are in there and then tell me that the cable still produces the same type of quality as a high end cable. Sure if you think it looks fine then thats good its ur tv and not mine and im sure you people who buy the mono price cables own Insignia, Westinghouse, Poloroid, and Vizio tv's and even that high end cable wouldnt help your GREAT HDTV set, and if you think about that statement about the digital aspect if a tv is DIGITAL as well you think they would all be the same right because its DIGITAL.
CASE RESTED.....ENJOY YOUR MONO PRICE CABLES ![]() AND NO WAY DONT THINK I DONT BELIEVE THE CABLES ARE MARKED UP I WORK IN ELECTRONICS RETAIL AND I KNOW THE MARK UP ON THE CHEAP SHIT AS WELL AS THE HIGH END IS MARKED UP HIGH BUT ITS STILL A BETTER QUALITY CABLE. Same here, and no... I don't own any Westinghouse products and never will! I use a 6ft HDMI cable that I bought from Monoprice. So far, no problems and it looks quite amazing.

You know what, it won't do any good, so why should I bother?
