Games Locking Up

The most irritating thing about games is when they lock up.

I was playing Far Cry 2 last night and I said I'll do one more mission then go to bed. Before I get to the destination, the game locks up. WHY??

Why do some games lock up and not others? All of the Call of Duty games on the PS3 NEVER lock up, LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars sometimes does, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded never does etc.

I've had almost every game I've played lock up at some point on me.

The worst game I've come across is Eufloria. It's fine while I'm playing it, but when I try to quit the game, after it's been on for a certain amount of time, it just doesn't. The screen freezes where it's black and says please wait in the middle. The PS3 then does the 3 beeps, turns off then on again. This happens if I try to quit via XMB, quit game option when you hold down the PS button or just try to turn the machine off using the controller or the button on the PS3.

Luckily i've completed it and got all the trophies so don't need to play it as much

Games seem to lock-up when my son is playing either Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle Cars or Bomberman Ultra. I can't even remember the last time a game (SEN or disc) locked up on me.

My experience was the same with my first gen 60gb fat, at least for all the games I played on it the last couple years that it was working. Most usually only locked up once at most though, with the exceptions of Oblivion and Fallout 3: Oblivion locked up only several times, where F3 locked up almost every time I played it, sometimes twice in the same session.

I've been using a slim for about a year now and I think only Skyrim has locked up on me and it's only happened a few times even with it.
