Default Laptops with blu-ray players from QVC

Every once in awhile when I channel surf, I sometimes watch QVC when they sell laptops. Sometimes they'll have one with a blu-ray player. Do you think their laptops would be a good product?

My older brother ordered a regular computer with QVC last year and it works just fine. Don't think it came with Word though.

I wish I could link to one on their site but they currently don't have any laptops with blu-ray players. Has anyone ever bought one from them before?

What do you think? I'm thinking on purchasing a new laptop from QVC in the future.

Is the brand actually QVC, or do they have a licensing agreement with someone like Dell, HP, or Sony? It should be fine, I'd just be worried about warranty, and would check and see if Worst Buy or the direct manufacturer had a better deal or something.

If the laptops are HP, I would avoid them like the plague.

QVC sells Dell and HP and another brand I can't remember. What's wrong with HP?

They have overheating issues, and their disc drives aren't always recognised, as in one minute you have a drive, the next, it will just drop out of existence. Also, this: http://www.squaretrade.com/htm/pdf/S...ility_1109.pdf

HP has a high failure rate. Their quality has diminished. My mother has an HP that's a little over a year old, and it's highly problematic. I gave her my 4-year old Compaq, which is also HP, and it runs better, although it also has had its fair share of problems as well.

Dell's improved from when I last used them from 2004-2007, apparently, but I don't think too highly of them either.

I've had success with Toshiba and Acer. I'm currently trying Sony out now.

Okay, thanks. I will keep this in mind. I've had my Dell laptop for almost 5 years now. There's things wrong with it but it's virus free and still works fine. I'm just ready for a new one (later this year I hope) with a blu-ray player.

Yeah, all machines have their quirks, and no computer is perfect. I've persoanlly just found that HP has been more problematic than any other brand. The Dells I used during university had their issues because they were mass manufactured as cheap as possible for the school. I know others who have had great success with them.

I've had great success with Acer, yet a lot of people hate them.

I have a BD drive in the Sony I just bought, as my last laptop was the Compaq in 2008. I paid about 850 for it, but I looked around before I bought it, and compared specs, reviews, and prices.

would this be reliable?

Well, I LOVE HP/Compaq. My PDA (yes, some of us still have those) is an HP5400 from 2003 and other than the battery not holding a full charge after more than 7 years, it works fine. My first laptop was an HP. I can't remember the type, but it was a business laptop. It lasted three and a half years. My second laptop was a HP NC6400. It lasted four and a half years and only started having issues after four years. My current third laptop, an Elitebook 8440p is more than a year old and works perfectly. Every HP printer has lasted a long time. The desktops I've gotten have been good. My netbook is a Compaq Mini and it's working great after a year and a half. I highly recommend HP for most tech things. The one area I totally prefer another tech brand is with digital cameras. I only get Canon digital cameras as I've liked every one I've gotten. They've been as good for me with their digital cameras as HP has been good for me with their computers. I will say that if you go for an HP, go for a computer from their business line. While their home computer pc's are fine, their business line computers are made from better parts and hold up way better and are designed better, like where they place the vents for letting hot air out. I don't think those are sold on QVC.

17" Dell i5 with blu-ray $400 cheaper at Worst Buy and has a bigger hard drive

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+I...&skuId=4154861

or I just put together an XPS 17 i5, 6GB, same graphics, 750GB HDD, Blu-ray at Dell site for $1000.
More hard drive for $200 cheaper than QVC if you want the XPS 17.

Back in 2010 I was trying to find a nice, loaded laptop. I bought a HP from Sams Club due to their return policy. It had a screen issue. Returned. The next had a bad trackpad. Returned. Screen issue....after I think six returns between three HP models, I gave up. It cost me two hundred bucks more, but I went and bought my first MacBook Pro. Two years on, runs like new. I know some have case issues and heating problems with Macs, but the three lines of HP were all having widespread issues and they were recalling some of them a few months after this escapade started.

HP is okay in the desktop computer line, but you can build your own a lot cheaper.

Dell is okay, they seem to have gotten better recently, so they may be a safer bet than HP.

Always get a decent warranty!
