as for flat screen...

I like Plasmas over an LCD... but for each I would say...

Plasma - Pioneer KURO

LCD - Sony XBR series

I don't watch much TV at all. I mostly watch movies, which is why I'm planning on getting a Bru-ray player. I do ocasionally play games. So based on this would it be better to get an LCD or a Plasma of around 46" to 51". I guess the PS3 would make sense as it can do both (play BD movies and games) I mostly watch movies though so I'm not sure if LCD or Plasma would be the best bet. I will get a new receiver though that supports both of the two new audio formats. The new receiver combined with a BD Player should give me true 7.1 uncompressed audio right? Thanks for the Help.

I really don't want to spend any more $2000 to $2500. I know that may limit what I can buy, but I'll just wait for the right deal. Another question, does the PS3 support the two new audio formats out there? That's kind of important to me, as I want to get a new receiver that has these formats available (Dolby True HD and DTS HD). TV wise, I want whatever is going to give me the best picture quality and clarity for watching movies, a little regular TV, and sometimes games (if I get a PS3). Just trying to get all the advise out there that I can as to which is best for me before I go out and spend all that money

One other thing, not all TVs with 1080i or 1080p or whatever are made equal either - Its possible for 1080i to look better than 1080p depending on quality of television too. Also how they are calibrated makes a big dif too.

I couldnt agree any more than whats already been said. After about 6-8 ft the difference between 720p and 1080p for a 42" is really hard to tell. Finally don't read too much into specs. All the new LCD TVs boast some incredible contrast ratio but still look like garbage next to last model panny plasmas. Who cares about 10k to 1 ratio when blacks still look grey and colors are muddled and muted. Lcds still have a tendency to blur a bit with fast motion although its much better than it was a year ago. I suspect there is some major markup or sales kickback for retailers to push lcds over plasmas.

your set is 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, which makes it 720p native. But you can accept 1080i, it will be downscaled to 720p.
