Ah right. blu-ray.com says it has a slipcover featuring the original theatrical poster and includes a collectible booklet. Had a look and no other site mentions the slip with the original art. Panick over!

In my opinion, Chinatown and Blue Velvet are two of the greatest noir films to come out since the height of the noir days in the 40s and 50s. I'm so excited for this one.

Agreed. Very excited about this, and can't wait to see what the upgrade to Blu will do for this visually gorgeous film.

I couldn't agree more about the upgrade.

The DVD isn't exactly bad but I would say of the big announcements this year Chinatown probably has the most room from improvement.

I'm really looking forward to Double Indemnity and The Apartment because I love the films but this is definitely the one I'm most eager to see.

Barring something really bizarre it should be a night and day difference.

im not that hung up on cover art for movies, but if it looks like the one posted in this thread i will be impressed. less is more, and that cover is fantastic.

According to this link Chinatown is going to be a region free release http://www.hdmoviesource.com/product-p/6259.htm can anyone confirm if this source is reliable as I am looking to order the US release as the UK release probably wont have the good cover art and Fincher Commentary.

I remember seeing years ago on TV in the UK on the BBC2 channel a piece that analyzed Chinatown. The only bit I vaguely remember was that analysis was done on the significance of the butterfly on Evelyn's back, which Giddes looks at while they are in bed.

I think the piece was shown on The Late Show arts program, which was on frequently very late at night around that time. I tried finding the episode on the British Film Institute site at http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/17681 but was not successful.

It would be really nice if the piece that was broadcast were included on the disc.

I pre-ordered a book from Amazon today, and I wanted a Blu that's also being relased on April 3rd, so I took the word of the site's release date for CT, and pre-ordered them both today.

Chinatown is a perfect movie for me.

So much of what is released today, I just hate on some level or another, but with CT, there is NOTHING to hate.

CT will happily have a place on my Blu-ray shelf ! !

I've been wanting to see this for years but never got around to it. I just finished it on Netflix in HD and even streaming this didn't look half bad. I have a feeling this blu-ray is going to be tops. As for the film itself, its was excellent. Really drew me in during the first ten minutes and I didn't blink an eye the rest of the running time. This is one of those films (kind of like Se7en) that really has an impact the first time you watch it and seems like it will only grow stronger during repeat viewings. That being said, I'll definitely be picking the blu up. It may not be day 1 but it's a must own.

Looking forward to this Blu release! I saw my DVD copy today and started watching it and the credits alone looked awful, and noticed specks and juddering. Turned it off after a few minutes. Can't wait to watch this in HD!

I'm so hyped up about this release I think any review short of a breathless 'OMG. best. transfer. evrah!' would have been a bit of a letdown but even with all the qualifiers this still sounds awfully encouraging.

That preorder can't show up fast enough.
