Jon Hamm: 'Mad Men will end in three years'

Quote:
Jon Hamm has revealed that Mad Men will end once its current three-season contract with AMC expires.

The Bridesmaids actor spoke to the BBC about the acclaimed series, stating that he knows that the series will come to a definite conclusion.

"I think it should end. Everything should end. I was a big fan of The Office over here [in the UK] because it ended," said Hamm.

The 40-year-old went on to address the season five delay, claiming that it was due to contract issues.

"It was nobody's fault really, it was the network and the studio," said Hamm. "When billionaires fight it tends to take a lot longer than when normal people do."

Show creator Matthew Weiner said in March that he was refusing to sign a contract with AMC because the network wanted to make changes to the show that Weiner did not approve of.

Christina Hendricks, who plays Joan Holloway, recently said that the series will begin shooting in the next month.

Mad Men is expected to return in 2012.

Jon Hamm Locks In 'Mad Men' For 3 Years With 8-Figure Deal
Quote:
Great news for fans of one of the best hours of drama on television. We've learned that Jon Hamm just inked a 3-year Mad Men contract with Lionsgate TV and network AMC in a deal that makes the show's star one of the highest paid actors in a cable series. Mad Men returns to AMC in 2012. Hamm is long represented by ICM and his manager is Connie Tavel. Hamm's signing comes on the heels of Mad Men creator Matt Weiner closing a new $30 million deal for the show following one of the longest and most difficult showrunner re-negotiations in recent TV history. AMC officially renewed Mad Men for 2 more seasons and Lionsgate TV already locked in Mad Men creator Matt Weiner for three more years. So this Hamm negotiation effectively assures that Mad Men will go to 7 seasons.

We hear Jon Hamm's blockbuster new 3-year deal is in the eight figures, catapulting him in the top ranks of cable's leading men. His original contract for Mad Men was a standard five-year pact. The new renegotiated deal raises his pay significantly in exchange for adding 2 more years to his contract. Its length also alines it with the one of Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, who closed a new 3-year deal with Lionsgate TV and AMC earlier this year. After locking in Weiner, Hamm was the studio's top priority, with other key cast members also expected to get bumps in exchange for longer contracts.

So we're getting 7 seasons instead of the long mentioned 6? Awesome.

True, but with his contract ending in 3 years, it's a good bet.

It's a good bet, but what if Hamm's movie career isn't doing great in 3 years but Mad Men is still popular? I remember after Zach Braff made Garden State he said he was going to leave Scrubs after his contract expired, but by the time his contract was up his movie career had tanked so he extended his Scrubs contract. I don't think that will happen with Hamm but regardless he never said the words used in the headline.

Cable shows rarely go beyond 7 seasons. And remember that Mad Men's ratings aren't nearly as good as its critical acclaim.

Yep, its always funny when these tv people overplay their hands and leave something thats a money and fame generating machine. Look at all the people that left law&order to try and go do bigger things.

Thats, true and if they were able to keep that acclaim for 7 years they'd be in an elite category of shows.

The advertising is beginning to show up for season 5. I saw the falling man today on a billboard and immediately knew Mad Men is back

Well I guess I'd never noticed them until now!

Just as long as the series goes on for a while longer, all will be well.

I sort of wish the writers' room would go full steam ahead and start mapping out Season 6 now before S5 starts airing. Time to make up for missing two years.

I still don't know if it will get 3 more years (or I guess 2 since this season counts as 1?). I guess the first key factor is how it does after the break. Will ratings jump? Be the same? Drop?

May as well do them. I mean some serious money being spent just on wages.

I do hope ratings remain good though. Mad Men is just great Television and I for one can't wait for it's return.

I'm thinking a sixth season will be a done deal regardless, but a seventh... I think it is still early to tell. It also depends if AMC develops other shows that take over. But with Breaking Bad leaving after next season, it makes room for more shows/more Mad Men seasons. And who knows if The Killing will get a third season either.
