Default Contrast ratio worth the price????

I have a buddy that is looking at 2 different Samsung 46" LCD's. 1 of them is 20000:1 contrast ratio for $2699 and 1 is 25000:1 contrast ratio but is $3100. Do you think its worth the extra money for the higher contrast ratio? The TV's will be in a pretty well lit room from outside light. I read somewhere that the human eye cant really tell the difference over like 500:1 contrast ratio with just enuf light from 1 candle. Is this true...Any inside help would be greatly appreciated.

the difference isnt only in the contrast, it probably has some other options and thats why its a bit more.....will you see the difference, probably, but it will be minimal...

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT467...2412420&sr=1-1

and this one

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT466...2412349&sr=1-1

and please let him know that there are better deals than best buy or circuit city, online retailers are pretty safe he could save at least 500 bucks

I would suggest for him to visit the AVS forum, they have a lot of members who have those LCD's and they have specific threads about them

here is the 71

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=893827

and the 69

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=931005

I would suggest for him to take some time and read them throughly and then decide

listen. 20,000:1 and 25,000:1, some people may not see the difference. 20,000:1 vs. 500:1, you have to be blind not to see the difference.

According to the ISF the most important thing in a TV is contrast ratio. Here is a list of what the ISF believes are the most important things to producing a good image:
1) Contrast Ration
2) Color Saturation
3) Color Accuracy (Calibration)
4) Resolution
Even though resolution is the most talked about feature, it only ranks 4th in importance according to the ISF. IF you are looking at 2 TVs and one has a higher contrast ratio and is properly calibrated but its only 720p while the other is 1080p with a lower contrast ratio and not calibrated, the 720p will produce the better picture.

Plasmas also tend to be better with color accuracy than LCDs. Of course newer LCDs are closing that gap, but there is still more than a noticable difference.

out of curiosity on this subject how signifigant would the changes be in the stages of 13,000 ..... 16,000....and 18,000:1 be?

i ask because im nearing my 90 day return date and im still weighing the options of upgrading my tv to a w-series or an xbr.

my understanding is contrast is the most important part of hidef tv's, is 13,000:1 dynamic, 1,600 static (my model) good enough or am i not really getting hidef color?

The Aquos I had 62U was static 2000:1 and dynamic 10,000:1. Sony is like Statis 1800:1 and dynamic 16000:1.... geeez... makes them tough to compare outside of brands.
