The distributors and studio wanted this to have a 12A rating in the UK so the BBFC asked them to not only cut scenes out but adjust the sound levels at the "jump" scenes and even adjust some of the colour timing*

They did and that's how the movie was given the 12A rating in the UK (also happened in other countries). Apparently the Blu Ray/DVD release will be an "uncut" andfar scarier version

Oh, really? That is very interesting. So they are doing a R-rated version for the home release?

This is a fantastic film. It's a creepy, slow paced, victorian ghost story. It reminded me of The Others in tone and pacing. This is a day one purchase for me.

More like an original cut and in the US I guess it will have the equivalent of the UK's 15 rating.

I hope so. I thought the film was good, but lacked a bit. I bet this will push it over for me.

Blind buy for me. I was excited to see it before it came out but the trailer looked awful. Then the positive reviews came out so I'm excited again.

Was a very good ghost movie, nice to Hammer back doing gothics the right way. A bit many jump-scares (loud bursts of noise and such) -- I wonder if the "cut" UK version might actually work better in this regard.

Just watched this last night. It was....ok. I guess I expected more. Quite honestly, I thought Insidious was more frightening, particularly the first half.

Pretty good movie. Some good jump scenes, but two things that killed it for me was
[Show spoiler]they showed the woman in black too much, rather than letting her presence be known like in the rocking chair
and they showed a lot of the same creepy dolls to the point it became dumb and goofy rather than creepy.

Still, I'd want to give it one more watch to see if it earns a spot in my collection since I have been, and still am downsizing.

Am curious to see what they add back in. I liked it enough the way it was. So, sounds good to me. I'll prob pick this up once it gets in the $10 neighborhood.

Harry Potter and the Woman in Black wasn't bad at all. It was quite creepy and at times scary. It was similar in theme to that of The Orphanage and Dead Silence(I never seen the Others) and Harry Potter is actually a really good, stellar actor. He shows his range and breaks free from the Harry Potter persona. I can see him winning oscars in the future. Was it me or did he look like a young Hugh Jackman in this movie?
