Default 3D pictures of the moon!

Great article about 3D pictures of the moon created by NASA. The pictures will be released on this website. They are anaglyph but still, seeing the moon in 3D should be pretty cool!

Default Panasonic TY-ER3D4MU 3D Glasses Discontinued? or Alternative?

I have a Panasonic VIERA TC-P50UT50 3D TV. I planned to buy the TY-ER3D4MU 3D Glasses but now I see they are no longer sold on amazon, best buy, or even on panasonics site. Anyone know if these have been discontinued for good?

Or know of any other great rechargable active 3D glasses that work with this tv? I have the Samsung SSG-4100GB glasses but they let in alot of glare which has become pretty annoying.

Any help would be appreciated!

Default OU Vs. SBS?

Okay, so I currently use Active glasses on what I can only assume is an OU display. I know that there was a setting I was told to use when I was in the Blu-Ray settings menu (something, blah, blah, blah, checkerboard or not - anyway it works perfectly)

I've seen posts and video files with SBS images and wonder how people use them.

Can I use Active glasses and SBS?

Question Some people are more sensitive to 3D?

As in the 3D flicker? I let a family member use my 3D glasses and she complained that it was giving her eye strain.. but again she was sitting really off axis about 95 degrees off center of the screen

My projector runs at 120 Hz so that's 60hz per eye.

Funny thing is she can't see the DLP rainbow colors but I can if I shift my eyes but after about 6 months having my projector I guess I got used to it more so it's not as bad.

Default International 3D society 2014 Award winners

from Variety (Jan. 28, 2014)

If tech credits carry weight, then Gravity and Frozen have a leg up in the Oscar race for their respective categories.

The Warner Bros. space drama and Disney Animation musical both won multiple honors at The International 3D & Advanced Imaging Society’s 3D Creative Arts Awards gala, held Jan. 28 at Warner Bros. Studios.

“Gravity” swept several categories, including best live action 3D feature, best stereography – live action, best 3D scene of the Year and best 2D-to-3D Conversion.

Two of the Society’s Lumiere statuettes went to “Frozen” for best animated 3D feature and best stereography – animation.

In all, the org bestowed 25 honors for distinguished achievement. “It is clear from these winners that 3D is maturing as an art form,” said awards chairman Buzz Hays. “From live action, to animated, to concert movies, to documentaries, we saw a vigorous worldwide production community at its best.”

Prime Focus World stereographer Richard Baker and SVP of production Matthew Bristowe were awarded the trophy for the 2D-to-3D conversion on “Gravity,” which they accepted along with PFW CEO Namit Malhotra. This is PFW’s first award in Hollywood.

Metallica Through the Never (Picturehouse Entertainment) won for best motion picture documentary. Get a Horse! (Walt Disney Animation Studios) was honored as this year’s best short-subject movie. Stalingrad (Columbia Pictures) received the jury prize for outstanding 3D artistic achievement.”

Pixar Animation was honored with the Sir Charles Wheatstone Award for education and distinguished achievement in 3D storytelling.

Directors, producers, and production executives from Hollywood and more than a dozen countries attended the sold-out event. Countries represented at the ceremony included China, Taiwan, Japan, the U.K., Canada and several E.U. nations.

As previously announced, DreamWorks Animation topper Jeffrey Katzenberg received the Society’s Harold Lloyd Filmmaker Award, which was presented by Suzanne Lloyd and society co-chairman Tom Cosgrove, CEO of 3net Studios.

Steve Schklair, founder and CEO of 3ality Technica, received the Century Award. 3eality camera systems have been used for such films as “The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug,” “The Great Gatsby” and “U2 3D in Concert.”

In two new advanced imaging categories, the society presented Lumiere statuettes to Space: Unraveling the Cosmos (3net Studios) for 4K documentary and Breaking Bad (AMC) for 4K entertainment.

“Many of tonight’s honorees are now bound for the Academy Awards, which indicates just how far 3D as an art form has come,” said society prexy Jim Chabin. “Ultra-high-def and 4K programming is fast becoming a new standard as we move into the next decade. ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Space: Unraveling the Cosmos’ boldly embraced this new digital technology.”

In the live-event category, rock band Mayday won for its 3D concert movie Mayday Nowhere (B’in Music). Japanese film Space Pirate Captain Harlock (Qtech) was awarded best international animated feature. Mr. Hublot (Zeilt Productions) copped a Lumiere for best international animated short. The stop-motion movie Present for You (PLUS heads) won the best international live action feature.

The award for best live action Short went to Kafard Films for Lapse of Time and the best international entertainment – music Lumiere went to Des Roar (International 3D Media Partners).

In international TV categories, Sky UK won Lumiere statuettes for 3DTV series Little Cracker, 3DTV sports for F1 Barcelona Racing, and historical documentary for Inside the Mind of Leonardo.

Other winners included CCTV China for cultural documentary Guo Mai, Shanghai Media Group for nature documentary The Mountain’s Spirit, and BBC for 3D advertising for the London summer Olympics.

Default 3Active vs Quantum vs Sony

I received my quantum G5 3D glasses yesterday. I will update this thread with Pro's & Con's soon. I have already successfully synced all 3 model glasses to my Sony 900b 4K. I was a bit skeptical with Quantum working because they use Duo-Sync. I will get into more detail under each test category as I update.

----

Comfort level

1.) Quantum G5
2.) Sony 4-500A
3.) 3Active

All 3 are very close in grams of weight. The 3Active feels more sturdy than the other two. Also it has a full frame unlike the Sony which adds a gram or 2.

Peripheral Vision Light-Block

1.) 3Active
2.) Quantum G5
3.) Sony 4-500A

The 3Active blocks almost all Peripheral light. The frame also has excellent build quality. The Quantum rests a bit higher on your face so you can see light & minor reflection.

Performance Visual

1.) 3Active
2.) Sony 4-500A
3.) Quantum G5

Very close between 3Active & Sony. Image resolution looks slightly better with 3Active. Better contrast & also less Crosstalk when viewing from angles not recommended. There is an unacceptable flaw with the G5 shutter I can not look past. Intermittently, (At random) the left lens blinks 1-2 times per minute. Contrast is darker but resolution seems to be ok much like Sony's.

Battery Performance

Default Guardians of the Galaxy 3D problem

My head is at the same height as the middle of the screen and I'm looking straight on to it so I'm not looking at it at an angle but I've noticed when I tilt my head back a little and still look through the glasses the colour goes from blueish tint to a more natural tint and I get a big increase in detail. I tested x-men and it didn't do it. Has anyone else experienced this with this movie or any others?

Arrow YouTube's 360 degree stereo 3D VR Videos

YouTube's 360 degree stereo 3D VR Videos

Imagine watching a video in 3D, and at the same time being able to rotate the camera freely with your mouse (or VR headset) as if you were in the scene? These videos are cropping up on youtube just recently from the look of it. 360 was there, but now it’s offering stereo 3D with it.

Here's the 360 3D video (anagylph 3D)
This video starts off in a dark, poorly lit area, but then once it gets the character, you can see the stronger 3D effect well while looking around freely. If the mouse pointer turns into a hand symbol, you can click and drag the screen to rotate the view.

Doing a search for 3D, I ended up with some results for videos that will let you look around in 360 degrees, while the video is playing and in stereo 3D. Pretty cool, thanks to 360 degree camera and coding technology. Google got it going for its google Earth maps, that let you visit almost any accessible location to explore at street level.

If they offer 3D for that, it would be a nice addition for touring new places without having to go there, relating to Virtual Reality's current push in the market with the PSVR, Gear, Vibe, and Rift among others.

If you find a VR 3D video or 3D 360 interest, post it in this thread if you want. Thanks.

Lightbulb Prime Focus Conversion Team hiring Stereo 3D Compositors

While searching for the latest movies that will be in stereo 3D, it's interesting to see a major conversion team like Prime Focus, is hiring 3D artists in LA, London, etc.

List of 3D conversions by Prime Focus:
http://www.primefocusworld.com/3d-conversion
Remembering that not all films are entirely converted, some will be filmed mostly in 3D, with some conversion shots, while others will be multi studio efforts, not just by Prime Focus.

Converting movies to 3D from a 2D source is very intensive and takes an impressive attention to detail, though the software available today definitely helps create amazing results as with 2016's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows 3D, which has a range of mostly strong 3D with some medium 3D. Prime Focus is preparing Transformers Last Knight 3D for this summer, among other films.

http://www.primefocusworld.com/depth-gen
https://vimeo.com/117916538
Check out the link above regarding Prime Focus' conversion tech, called Depth Gen, which shows a video of how it works. Pretty cool.

Keeping in mind, Prime Focus made the mistake of trying to convert Clash of the Titans in two weeks time, back in 2009/2010 or so right after Avatar 3D's success. The very weak 3D in most scenes with awful warping, put a big damper on 3D conversions for awhile. Then Prime Focus eventually brought out Lucas' low budget conversion of The Phantom Menace, which also had mild 3D and looked nearly 2D in many shots.

Later though, Prime Focus proved what they were capable of with their very nice conversion of Men in Black 3, which had medium to strong 3d. Since then, they've made consistent improvements in their conversions and are a conversion studio I trust will choose to offer stronger 3D films these days.

Germany Sunfilm Sky Vision titles

Is anyone familiar with this subject? I know Sunfilm is a German company that puts out a lot of converted 3D movies..but some of their titles such as Faszination Gronland have a Sky Vision logo. Now I know Sky had a 3D division..so I'm wondering if these shows are natural 3d or Sky channel show conversions...Thanks! I see another company Tiberius uses the same log for Kuba 3d and Sansibar titles...

Default 3d sound has problems too

This concerns the stereophonic sound you hear in a movie including the 3d films. In order to hear it properly, You have to sit in an area where the imaging is perfect, otherwise, you may miss the effects. When wearing headphone you will hear all the separate sounds perfectly, When you hear them on regular speakers it's a different story. You have to sit in the middle between the left and right speakers, between the screen. If you can't then your going to miss the effects.Even with 12 channel sound you have to be in the right area to hear all the effects, For example, when I had my headphones on when I played those red heads from Seattle, I heard more separate sounds in the dialogue, The scene of the little girl's voice in the game sequence on the ship,it moves to the right of my ear.I did not sense that small voice to the right of the regular speakers.I had to have been sitting in the right area and I was not. Mono sound everyone is hearing all the same effects without missing a sound. I'm surprised that there has not been any put down against stereophonic sound as there has been against 3D.
