Default Game install ???

If I choose to install a game on the 360. Does the whole game install, to where I no longer need the disk? How does this work? Thanks.

I don't have a Xbox 360, but if it's anything like the PS3 game install, then no you still need the disc.

You still need the disc , the installation in the HD was meant to keep the spinning noise down during play and also to save some problems to the DVD drive . This is all connected to DMR .

Thanks for the replies. I thought that it would be like a PC. To speed up load times and run smoother.

It will help load times/ boot times. (I forget the website but they listed the top games from a few years ago and showed installing did help... Not by any insane amount though)

Mostly as someone else said its to help the eye not have to constantly read the disk as allot of the info is already on the system.

I've found it helps with buggy games like fo/skyrim, and helps for games like cod/gears where its always looking for info and when you play 100s of hours that does help wear on the system.

I'll back up what everyone is saying. I do this with a lot of my games. The great thing is you can delete the game anytime you want and you don't lose any of your achievements.

A side benefit of the reduced wear on the hardware is the reduction in drive noise. The Xbox disc drives can be a bit loud when scanning/reading. Installing games makes this act unnecessary and lets your Xbox run quieter.

Yes, you still have to put the game disc in the drive to boot it. This is due to the fact that, unlike the PC, the Xbox doesn't use serial keys with games. Making users put the disc in is necessary to ensure people don't just rent and copy tons of games (it verifies ownership/possession of the game).

If you have the drive space, installing your favorite or currently-being-played games is definitely worthwhile.

Thanks. I will have to take advantage of this then. I just received my first XBox(ever) for Christmas. I've only been a PlayStation supporter. I got the Holiday bundle 250GB w/Kinect for family time. But I'm also have a few Xbox exclusives, that I'm going to play.
