I said the best John Ford film he NEVER made .... not the best Ford film ..... it was directed by John Farrow. A number of people think this is a Ford film.

Yes definitely getting this. It's a real classic, and the last time I saw it was years ago in pan and scan form, so good to see this release will be 1.85:1. Also hope Paramount stay on form and make this a region-free release.

We've got at least another year before that would even occur to Paramount.

still think this is a somewhat strange choice given that Paramount will be releasing this one BEFORE The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, El Dorado, and The High and the Mighty, but excited nonetheless.
as long as Paramount eventually releases all their Wayne films on blu, getting this one now isn't a big deal.
still waiting on more Wayne bds from Warner, though Fort Apache is a great addition.

While it's fun to bash Paramount repeatedly, they have nothing to do with Hondo other than distributing it. It's owned by the Wayne estate and that's who it would have to "occur" to. It's too bad it doesn't "occur" to them to also release this in its proper screen ratio.

I admit I have a complete lack of knowledge about 3D, due to my complete lack of interest in it. But back them they gave out little colored visors for folks to be able to see the "3D" - is that even compatible with today's 3D technology?

This seems kind of of pricey compared to other Paramount John Wayne films, but maybe that's because AMZ only has a 10% discount so far? The MSRP of $24.99 is the same as Big Jake which can easily be had for $15-16, so hopefully the price will drop.

I thought I read somewhere that to convert older 3D titles to 3D television would be very costly as the 3D process back then was different than it is now?
Is that true or no?

Here are some great news : Paramount will release 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' in numerous countries (Australia,Germany,etc) on June ,but still no word on USA release date.Can't be far behind,for sure

^^ That's totally wrong. Anaglyph 3-D only really works/is designed for b/w, and was used on analog TV broadcasts/video because that's the only 3-D method old TV technology supported., 3-D in theaters was with grey (neutral) Polaroid (polarizing method) glasses, just like today, the difference was those are passive polarizing, while today we have active polarizing (sequential shutter system) too, which is what's used on Blu-ray3D which is a mayor advancement for home theater because you can have full color and resolution 3-D at home, just like theaters always had.

Anaglyph WAS used for B/W movies in 50's theaters, and for some color movies (but not very well)--Polarized came along much later, and some movies, like House of Wax, were converted to the new format.

I didn't say it wasn't used for b/w didn't I? It's the notion that before the 21st century theatrical 3-D meant red/magenta / cyan/blue/green glasses that's wrong (perpetuated by those Life magazine pictures ). Never seen a 3-D picture with those. But I've seen things like 1953's House of Wax, Miss Sadie Thompson, etc in Polaroid 3-D

Wal-Mart tends to stock about all of John Wayne's titles on BD. I bet we will see it there on release day for $15 or less, but you're right $15.99 is a good price to do that.
