Default Persepolis - new animated film

Have people seen the HD trailers for this French/Iranian film yet? It looks amazing. It is in black and white and is hand-drawn. It's very stylized and features a rather interesting plot (a rebelious girl under the new Islamic government after Iran's revolution). I like the dramatic black and grey tones.

This looks like a film that will get a BD release (it is also under Sony Pictures). I like seeing the texture of the pencil lines.

I'm not sure if I would entirely call this Iranian cinema since it was produced in France (by a French-Iranian woman). The Iranian Government disproves of this film and the graphic novels from which it is based on (obvious reasons). I'm pretty sure this film is banned in Iran.

This title is up for preorder on dvdempire with a release date of June 24.

This was an excellent movie - touching and sad, but with a sharp sense of humor.

Wow, it has a 95 fresh rating on rottentomatoes. Looks like a blind buy on Blu-ray for me.

i have been waiting for this movie to come out on Blu, and I honestly did not expect it so soon. I tried to see it in theaters, but missed it by one day!
It has been getting great reviews and was up for Best Animated Picture, although Ratatouille won.

This is a definite blind buy for me..

But I really don't know if you can call it a blind buy as I read the book in my Jr. year of college for my Middle East History class.

Excellent book, so I'll definitely be looking to see the film version.

That's the scary thing about BD and home theaters. The communal theatrical experience is in danger. The only thing better then a great movie is a great movie in front of a full, eager audience. Complete with infectious laughter, oohhhs, aahhhs, clapping at the end, and a euphoric buzz among the crowd as it makes its way to the exits. To see a great movie in a theater is only an enhancement and I would prefer that over my living room couch any day any time.

Sadly, our future is barreling at high speed away from the nostalgia of GOING to the movies. "Waiting for the disc" is the antiseptic future of a crackling cinema replete with fellowship and a pleasant assault of sites, smells, and the general excitement of a trip to the cinema.

I've gotta disagree with you there. When I took a friend to see Letters from Iwo Jima, the man next to her let out three disgusting farts during a key, emotional point in the movie. Not to mention the guy with the dry cough sitting a couple rows back, the gum and soda and popcorn stuck to the seats and floor, the lines, the parking, the loudmouths on their cellphones, the mobile device-checking during the film, the guy with long legs kicking the back of my seat, the talking...it just goes on and on and destroys every moviegoing experience I try to enjoy.

It's an assault of sights and smells and sounds, alright...but not in the way you mean.

Where do you live? Sounds like a gaggle of monkeys in your town! lol. I RARELY have a situation at the movies that makes it a negative experience. Particularly in film festivals (which the comment is generated from). The communal experience at a film festival showing is generally nothing short of AWESOME.

Farting, Cell phones going off, Kicking, Popcorn stuck to the seats? Wow... your town sucks! I wouldn't go to the movies either.

I'm skipping it because there's 16 other movies I'm watching. I have to pick which movies I won't have easy access to (Flight of the Red Balloon, The Banishment, Three Monkeys, Gomorrah, The Song of the Sparrows, Waltz with Bashir and so on).
