Universal Wants Jeff Bridges or Michael Douglas for DIRTY GRANDPA

Universal is looking to cast one of two film icons as the titular elder in the comedy Dirty Grandpa. The script was written by comedian John Phillips (Bad Santa 2) and centers on “a soon-to-be-married uptight grandson who is tricked into escorting his lascivious and recently widowed former Army general of a grandfather to spring break in Florida.” Vulture reports that Jeff Bridges has been offered the lead role, but in the event that The Dude does not abide, the studio plans on approaching Michael Douglas for the lead role. While the title and logline sound like a bad, straight-to-DVD Happy Madison movie, if either Bridges or Douglas signs on I will be 1000% more interested.

In addition to being one of the most original talents working today, Bridges is an incredible comedic actor. Vulture’s report stresses that actors are offered parts every day so Bridges is far from a sure thing, but I would be incredibly happy to see the actor play a foul-mouthed, hard R grandfather who wreaks havoc on his son’s life. Douglas is an interesting choice for a back up; he’s not exactly known for his comedic work, but he’s unendingly charismatic and it’d certainly be interesting to see him take on such a different character.

Bridges recently wrapped the supernatural comic adaptation R.I.P.D. with Ryan Reynolds, and he’s currently shooting the fantasy adventure Seventh Son. Douglas is next set to shoot Steven Soderbergh’s biopic of Liberace for HBO, Behind the Candelabra opposite Matt Damon.

If it wasn't for the two actors they're courting for this, I wouldn't be remotely interested. But with two of my favorite actors being sought after for the role, I'm actually sort of interested...

I like the concept and if done right, should be hilarious. Just cause these guys are old now, doesn't mean they didn't do the raunchy comedy roles when younger and i bet Bridges would be amazing in the role.
