I Agree that the Special Edition Cases of DVDs are a lot cooler, for example, the Saw Cases are pretty Amazing, and so is the Boogie Nights Cover, but when it comes to regular editions, the fact that all the blu-rays actually LINE UP is great to me.
I Usually Buy the Edition with the Best Looking Cover....Shallow? Maybe, Smart? Maybe Not. But I do Like everything to look good. And the Blu-Cases Do Kind of Look Plain Compared to a Shiny Metal Case (Future Shop has Exclusive Metal Cases for Big Releases) or Even a Specially Printed Cover Last edited by hardcore_canadian; 02-11-2008 at 06:12 AM. |

but I think the packaging is the best out there...except for anything in a steelcase, which I won't pay for anyways.. I buy the product, not the packaging...sorry, I just don't understand the logic in what you are saying..no offense intended.. |

The metaphor broken down into peices and elaborated on: The packaging=The Attire The Blu-ray=The beautiful woman The content on the Blu(the actual film)=Intellectual substance, or as you put it "stupidity" So this is what I gather from your response. You would be interested in an ugly dumb girl if she dressed nice? Please correct me if I misinterpereted that. And to clear up your incorrect assumption that you made in the beginning of this post. Yes I would initially be attracted to a woman based upon her phyisical beauty, not her clothing. But that's just a natural human reaction. How many people pass by a brand new Ferrari with out blinking an eye just to have their jaw drop to the floor when an '81 Honda comes around the corner? Anyways, once I meet said beautiful woman she better have something going on upstairs or I'll quickly lose interest no matter how pretty she is. That being said, I would not pass on a 1080p Blu-ray because I did not like the package and I also wouldn't by a crappy film just because it is in 1080p. Any questions? And by the way, I think the Blu-ray cases are rather good looking IMHO. Last edited by Blu-Beard; 02-11-2008 at 06:36 AM. |

I never said that I would buy a new DVD when the film is available on Blu Ray. I was just saying that when I don't like the package design, I am not ready to pay $25+ for the disc - instead I will wait for the companies to release a better version with a nice package design and probably extras - especially if I still have the DVD version - like in the case of the Criterion version of "The Rock"...

The post was not just meant as a joke.
For me, the "woman" equals the whole package, not just the disc. All discs look practically the same, don't they? The intellectual substance - as you put it - equals the content of the disc. And besides, there's also a big difference if a gorgeous girl is all dressed up or just wearing some shabby secondhand clothes... Let's face it, a lot of DVDs (and Blu Rays) are bought just because of the package. That's why HD-DVD had a clear disadvantage from the beginning. Fashion and Design is important, even in the home entertainment industry... Andreas Quote:

I like the cases. Everthing is the same size and they take up much less space then DVD cases. The artwork is fine with me too. When they are all stacked on the shelves you cant see the art anyway. Even if you could I still think they look fine. |

As long as the spine clearly shows the movie's title I'm cool. I don't think anyone stores/displays their collection with the top facing out like Blockbuster or something.
I agree, just focus on the content and quality; not the pretty picture. |

To the OP...
The packaging is infinitely better than DVD. Period. You are wrong and your taste sucks. Sorry. |

Speaking as a consumer - I really like the cases - more compact than DVD and they handle well. They look good.
Speaking as someone who makes custom DVD and Blu-ray sleeves (or cover inserts) I really like the new width-to-height aspect ratio of the covers - better for framing the artwork. |
