Default The Turin Horse (2011) - July 17, 2012 ; pre-order

The Turin Horse Blu-ray

Quote:
889. German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche witnessed the whipping of a horse while traveling in Turin, Italy. He tossed his arms around the horse's neck to protect it then collapsed to the ground. In less than one month, Nietzsche would be diagnosed with a serious mental illness that would make him bed-ridden and speechless for the next eleven years until his death. But whatever did happen to the horse? This film, which is Tarr's last, follows up this question in a fictionalized story of what occurred. The man who whipped the horse is a rural farmer who makes his living taking on carting jobs into the city with his horse-drawn cart. The horse is old and in very poor health, but does its best to obey its master's commands. The farmer and his daughter must come to the understanding that it will be unable to go on sustaining their livelihoods. The dying of the horse is the foundation of this tragic tale

This is just great!Probably the last directorial effort from great European master Béla Tarr (Werckmeister Harmonies;Damnation, etc) - The Turin Horse (A Torinói ló)will see lights of Blu on July 17th,courtesy of Cinema Guild.

It is official. July 17, 2012 on Blu-ray and DVD.

That is the international poster you have posted above, Our cover is based off of our own US poster.

I can confirm some bonus features as well, there are some we can't talk about yet.

There will be an Audio Commentary with Jonathan Rosenbaum as well as an essay by J. Hoberman. More to come on that front1

I haven't seen "The Turin Horse" yet but I'm very interested in nearly all of Trrs films and pre-ordered TTH already.

Yay! Region-free! That's just great, thank you! Pre-ordering a copy right away...
Now I just wish the film gets the proper treatment it deserves.
I was lucky enough to see the world premiere in Berlin and it must have been screened from a very fresh copy of the original negative or something as I had never seen anything like that in a cinema before. The picture quality was simply breathtaking - incredibly sharp, clean, pristine transfer. It was hard to believe I was watching "just" 35mm.
I'm saying this because when the film hit the cinemas in our country (Czech Republic) a few months later, I went to see it again in our local cinema, and it was a real disappointment. It was supposed to be a 35mm copy as well, but the picture was far from what I saw back in Berlin. The image had this weird sepia-like hue as opposed to pure black and white from Berlin copy and the whole picture seemed a bit softer. The same case was the official Greek DVD release I also watched, again that nasty hue. It seems that only Blu-ray has the potential to come close to the Berlin presentation I recall. I wish the best of luck in getting it right to whoever prepares this release! ;-)

You will not be disappointed. I think the Blu-ray transfer looks incredible for this film.

Looks like a very compelling and intriguing film but between the trailer accompanying the release notification and the 'Nietzsche' quote at the beginning of the thread it also looks like it might be the most depressing and nihilistic film production ever attempted. Is there anything beyond the tale of a dying old horse that would tend to prevent one from slashing one's wrist at the conclusion of the drama. Clearly will have to delve deeper into this one...

This is fantastic news and I can't wait to own this, and I'm equally excited about this release as the Once Upon a Time in Anatolia. I've already seen both on DVD, but for me, both of these films are the perfect examples of films that are going to benefit most of all by Blu-ray. Bravo to Cinema Guild for releasing two of the best films of 2011, and work from two of the greatest auteurs.

PS, does anyone know what the shipping fees are like from CinemaGuild to Europe? I see you save $10 by preordering from them, and I've no idea how much they charge. Thanks

It still says "Region A (B, C untested)" on the Blu-ray.com page.
Somebody should update that.

That's a good list, but given their track record,it seems that they are interested in putting out new Foreign/European titles only.I could be wrong though.

First time I'm hearing of this film. My interest is piqued. I wonder if this title will be part of Barnes and Noble's ongoing 50% off Art Films sale. If so, I will definitely blind buy!
