They said like 24 minutes of unreleased material.

I don't get why they do this stuff? Obvioulsy it was determined that the content wasn't good enough for the theatrical release, why would I want to see it now?

I hated this with superbad. I felt that the movie went on too long and was forcing stuff only to figure out that the version I rented was the unrated with extra scenes in it. The blu version should give you the OPTION to watch it how it was intended, not the fattened up version. LESS IS BETTER!!!

Superbad had around 4 minutes of extra stuff that they were not ALLOWED to show in theaters because of raunchiness. same with this. Much like with LoTR the runtime may have been limited by the studio.

It's rare that this extra material ever holds up to the original version. The same with Bonus tracks on CD's. IF the songs were ever that good, they would have made it on the original release.

If they need to include it on the disc, then at least give the option to include both versions. It seems that the blu disc always gets the less funny extended version where you have the option to buy either one on standard DVD.

actually your wrong there imo. Superbad was a lot better in the unrated format. same with all of Apatows movies.

This isn't really true about the extra stuff being the unintended cut.
Take Daredevil for example in theaters not really a great flick it was pretty mediocre. The movie was originally about 30 minutes longer but thanks to the studio they had to cut out some plot points and several key points were changed. The director's cut of the movie in my opinion was far better then the theatrical version.

Someone mentioned how it was dumb to have EE versions of LoTR. The Extended editions are actually PJs true vision but the theatrical releases had to be edited for time and with a lot of comedy movies there are edits made to keep their pg 13 or R rating.

You make some good points, but overall directors cuts and unedited versions are subjective in deciding which is better. For instance, Mel Gibson's Payback was a great movie. When they released the directors cut which was quite different it was almost unwatchable.

For the most part, unedited versions just don't normally hold up to the original.

They may be off, just a wild guess based of my old days at best buy. Normally the shorter version sold way more then any extended cut back when I worked there. I would be curious to see the sales difference with Superbad.

the title reminded me of the old fortune cookie addition of 'in bed'.

Just add 'on Blu' to everything'. hahah.

I actually tried to FIND the rated cut but I have never found it. Also weren't EE more expensive way back when? Just asking.

+1!

The 40-Year-Old-Virgin is a prime example of too much. The extra materials are funny but don't improve the movie as a whole, in fact they make it drag on. There's a reason these movies get cut down, and no it's not the MPAA. These unrated releases are only meant to cause people to think "Oh great! I'm getting a better product because it has more!". I think we all know more isn't always better.

Talladega Nights was the same, I laughed more at the theatrical version, and it changed enough that it wasn't the same quality. (still hilarious, but not as)
