i have two disc drives, one blu ray (sony bdx10s bought when first released) and a cdr/dvdr that came with the pc. i never had a problem installing the blu ray drive or with firmware updates or with anything at all. for some reason within the last few weeks both drives disappear from 'my computer'. i go into device manager and they are listed but said something about drivers being corrupt or missing. now for the last several years of having this computer and dirves, nothing like this ever happened. i tried updating the drivers but said i already have the lastest drivers. i tried restoring the computer to a previous point before this started but didnt work. only after i reinstalled my antivirus, restarted, installed windows updates, restarted when the drives showed up again. this is the second time it happened. the first time i only restarted the pc.
anyone have a clue why this happens out of the blu? thanks! |

I just bought my first SATA Optical Drive, a LiteOn iHBS112 Blu-Ray burner. I have never hooked up any SATA devices save a second HDD in my XPS 400. The 2 SATA HDDs are in SATA 0 & SATA 1 ports on mobo. I just plugged the LiteOn into SATA 2 port on mobo and fired up Windows XP Pro. My device manager does not show a second optical drive (only my Sony DVD burner). What other steps must I take? Does Win XP Pro require a driver specifically for BD burners or maybe the BIOS needing new firmware? Any help would be greatly appreciated, please let me down softly if I can't use the drive in my XPS 400 though
