I just saw this movie this past January, it was the first time. It was on a HD movie broadcast. I already knew must of what the movie was about (it's hard not to for a movie that was done 40 years before you see it ) I tought it was a good performance by the actors even if I am really not a fan of any of the 4 main actor. The movie is very good at making you feel for the guys, talk about a weekend in hell. Even if I would not go out and buy it (it's not a movie I would really care to watch often) I am glad I got to see it the first time in HD. The cinematography was just beautiful as one would expect on a movie where everything take's place in nature. Would I recommend the movie? It would depend to whom I suppose. It's not an easy movie to watch that is for sure.

I see theres a new digibook...probably same disc...Is it just me or is it really stupid and confusing to some when the cover cast names are opposite of the actors on the cover?!

I see that on posters all the time and it annoys me. They probably need to be in that order for contractual reasons and sometimes it just doesn't mesh with the image used...

What the guy above me said. Actors negotiate in their contract who gets top billing, and that can't change. Doesn't have anything to do with where they stand in the picture, although in this case it looks like a big mistake.

I like the poster with the shotgun coming out of the water.

The suspense is killing me. I need to know if this is going to be a new transfer (same with HOOSIERS). I know the chance is slim and none, but I gots to know.

I never purchased the original, so I might be interested in this. Like others have said, I'll wait and see what the transfer is like...although the digibook enthusiast in me might not be able to hold off if this hits $19.99!

It's definitely the exact same transfer. The only difference aside from the book is a new featurette.

Here's the Press Release:

Quote:
DELIVERANCE CELEBRATES 40th ANNIVERSARY JUNE 26

New Premium Blu-ray™ Book Packaging from Warner Home Video with New Special Features & 42-Page Commemorative Book

Burbank, Calif., March 12, 2012 – Deliverance, the 1972 Oscar®-nominated film considered one of the screen’s most powerful man vs. nature adventures, celebrates its 40th Anniversary June 26 with a Blu-ray Book from Warner Home Video (WHV).

Jon Voight (Transformers, Mission:Impossible), Burt Reynolds (The Longest Yard, Boogie Nights) starred; Ned Beatty (Rampart, Rango) and Ronny Cox (Starter Wife, Desperate Housewives) co-starred, with John Boorman directing from a screenplay which James Dickey adapted from his novel. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards® (1972) including Best Picture, Directing and Film Editing.

Deliverance will now be offered in premium Blu-ray book packaging, including a new featurette and a 42-page commemorative book with behind-the-scenes photos and rare insights. The Blu-ray Book will be available for $34.99 SRP. Order due date is May 22.

The story of four “weekend warriors” who set off in canoes down a dangerous Georgia river and discover a wilderness of terror and survival, Deliverance builds the tension and fear to a raging climax, as the men travel way beyond their comfort zone and are forced to face more than they could have ever imagined. Vilmos Zsigmond’s expert cinematography captures the wilderness of forest and river.

Special Features

Deliverance: The Cast Remembers New!
Commentary by John Boorman
Deliverance: Betraying The River
Deliverance: The Journey
Deliverance: The Beginning
Deliverance: Delivered
The Dangerous World of Deliverance

If it was a new transfer they certainly would have mentioned it. The fact that they only highlighted featurette which is hardly a big deal means it really doesn't have much going for it, and is just more of a cash-grab to take advantage of a milestone anniversary (which tends to be Warner's M.O.)

I hear ya, I am at least glad I did not pick up the original also...I am trying to hold off my digiholic side from taking over and wait until it goes down in price.

Ahh, thanks for the info! Pretty much what I expected, as you said this is what WB likes to do!
Looks like I'll be setting the price watch for this to $20, and will be waiting for the email.

Poor Ned Beatty. He can play Rudy's dad all he wants, but when we look at him, all we see is a guy getting raped in the woods.

It's unfortunate this is the same video transfer as the old release, but at least they upgraded the audio to DTS-HD MA. They didn't even do that for Unforgiven or Goodfellas.

I'm surprised we didn't get a 45th anniversary release this year (being that we got a 35th in 2007 and a 40th in 2012) even if it is just a repackaging.

Depends. For me Ned Beatty will always be Mr. Dardis from All The Presidents Men.

I have the original blu ray and I think it looks fine. Like a movie from the 70's should look.
