Default Sherlock Holmes bbc Good?

I am wondering how is BBC's Holmes season 1 and 2? Is that comparable to the Movie edition?

You mean versus the Downey/Law movies? Two different animals. But the tv series is much more true to the stories, surprisingly so. If you dig the original works and the Rathbone movies, you'd probably like the tv series.

It's nothing like the movies (or any of the previous movies, for that matter) but it's excellent.

It's a modern interpretation set in present day London but it's remarkably faithful to the spirit of the original stories/characters.

The stories are very good, the writing is excellent (smart and funny) and the acting is also extremely good.

Steven Moffat (of Coupling and Dr. Who fame) is one of the creators/writers.

Well worth checking out.

This is one amazing show. Excellent blind buy if you've not seen it.

I think Netflix has it for streaming online right now. It's only 3 or so episodes for first season, but they're an hour each and I hear they're fantastic!

The movies are trash in comparison. The show is perfection.

It's one of the best shows the BBC or anybody has made in years.

The BBC version is infinitely better than the Robert Downey movies.

It's the best version of Sherlock Holmes that's been made. It's seriously brilliant.

It's definitely better than the Downey films. Benedict Cumberbatch is sublime as Sherlock and Martin Freeman is equally brilliant as Watson.

It's a masterpiece of TV drama that seems to be a little undervalued thanks to shows like Downton Abbey, but not entirely.

Agreed. Nothing is perfect, but this one is close.

This is one of the best shows I have ever seen. I own the Blu-rays and they are great transfers. I would highly recommend buying these. Go ahead and blind buy them if you have the money if not you can see it on Netflix.Top 5 show all time for me.

Season 1 of Sherlock was very good, but Season 2 was disappointing for me...Sherlock's character decidedly needed more depth and variation than was being portrayed.

The 1980s British Sherlock Holmes series was the best... Fantastic acting and stories right out of the books (at least at first). The recent Sherlock series is a good modern update. It's more like a TV show, but it's entertaining. Worth Netflix streaming up an ep or two, but I wouldn't buy it like I did the 80s series.

Here's my review for Series 2, not as good as the reviewers here, but I think it gets the point across....

I second this. Jeremy Brett's Holmes is the best in my opinion. But back to BBC

It's a really good show, but to say the newer movies are "trash in comparison" is absolutely ridiculous. Two completely different interpretations.

Jeremy Brett's SH is without a doubt the best Sherlock Holmes there is and ever will be. Now as a modern interpretation of the works, the BBC show is great. The movies on the other hand are a complete abomination
