What will happen is New Line (Time Warner) will not want to lose out on all that Hobbit cash so what they will do is come up with a nice settlement package, and throw a little more of the Hobbit money towards the Tolkien estate and original publishing company. This lawsuit will not last long there is way too much money to be made off The Hobbit.

Kinda like what they did with Jackson so he would be on board with the project

Exactly. They knew they would not be able to get a "Hobbit" movie made without him, the movie going public would have made sure of that by not going to see it.

Bet a $1 nothing will come of it. It's a nuisance suit and WB is too big for it to trip them up when they already made and released 3 films in good faith.

I know thet have something on www.ign.com in the movie section. From the way this law suit looks, we won't see in next 5 years. I'm guessing. This SUCKS!!!

It is interesting but it would take a lot for a judge to effectively nullify a contract. While granted the Judge could and should force New Line to pay what it owes plus punitive damages of a few hundred million. I am sure they would not be so quick as to dismiss the very nature of the contract. They would just make it clear that with any future movies they had better abide by the terms. Besides if the Tolkien Trust got the rights back they would try selling it again only this time demanding two or three times what they negotiated with New Line and they would not have Jackson on board which would effectively sink the project. It is merely a stipulation to start the negotiation and resolution of this issue. I anticipate a settlement will be reached long before this goes to trial or arbitration.

This would be a good time for them to get some money by releasing the LotR movie on Blu, just to get the money to pay them off and enough money to actually do the movies. I know they've lost some money with some of there releases. Ex: The Golden Compass
