Question Who Could be Next....?

AS the news of the day has been circling Best Buy and Netflix and there decisions to put support behind Blu ray, Has there been any talk or comments made by any other retailers? I know it's soon so the answer is probably no. I would imagine now that those two retailers have joined the ranks that TARGET and WALMART would probably follow suite pretty quick. Any news or updates regarding this topic?

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray sales are so insignificant for Walmart and Target that they don't really care. Walmart gross sales last year was over $350 billion and Target sales was around $60 billion.

Target is already more blu than red. They refuse to carry any HD-DVD players choosing only blu-ray, but they do carry HD-DVD movies. All the Target stores near me already have nearly 3x the amount of blu-ray movies on their shelves too. Currently I buy most of my non-amazon-BOGO titles at Target. Also Target stores have nice end displays of blu-ray players/titles.

I doubt Target will choose sides. Look in the discussion tab for a poll I created about this very topic....

I doubt Walmart will ever do this unless Toshiba stops DH-DVD altogether, Walmart still sells VHS players and tapes.

Easy

Futureshop in Canada... which is owned by Bestbuy

And I will say Zip and Blockbuster will stop renting HD DVD's online.

You gotta believe Toshiba will have to jump on the bandwagon before next Holidays. They can't afford to miss out. Players, displays and PC's. That will be the Appomattox and the beginning of reconstruction.

A couple of things on this topic. First, don't we all remember that Target made their big annoucement that they were going blu exclusive and that they were dropping HD DVD prior the holiday selling season (they would still offer on line though). Well, it did not happen, Yes, they have a end cap with a player and movies, but HD DVD is in every store I have been in lately, I don't call that exclusive. Now, how about Blockbuster. They made the same annoucement as target, and guess what, they still have HD DVD's to offer in their stores. Maybe these company's have a different meaning of the word exclusive? At least with the BB annoucement they are saying they will focus more on blu, but will still have red available. At least they are being honest and up front.

I think a move from recommending Blu Ray to being Blu Ray exclusive will be the next step at Best Buy. I'm sure the relations with HD DVD are strained since yesterday, I hope they get all that HD DVD crap out of the stores with the quickness.

Other then that,.. It sort of doesn't matter who's next anymore. Everyday someone's going to step up and dump HD DVD. I'm getting so used to it. It's like becoming Jaded in a way.

So long as it's not in the stores I'll have no trouble forgetting it ever existed soon. I don't mind if the DUD-ers can still get it in the mail because I won't have to know about it anymore.

As far as I can tell, the two Walmarts nearest me have already picked a side. Of course, that side is standard DVD. There's not a Blu-Ray disc or HD-DVD disc to be found in either of them outside of PS3 games or the free movie included with the PS3 and 360 add-on. They briefly had a couple of movies in each format but they are all gone now.

The local Target has a small selection of each format but it's hardly worth mentioning. Even the local Circuit City is pretty lousy. Only really decent selection is at Best Buy.
