I'm nuts about Mean Streets. I know most people are (rightly) gaga about Goodfellas, Casino's a ton of fun, and Raging Bull has sufficient street cred -- but most days of the week, I'd rather watch Mean Streets.

When De Niro's on screen as Johnny Boy, he's the only actor in the universe.

And what a soundtrack.

Not impossible at all considering The King of Comedy isnt a Warner title, its owned by Fox.

Ive never heard this rumour before but I would definitely welcome the movie if it was true.

Who said anything about King of Comedy? You're in the Mean Street thread. Poster was talking about a Mean Streets/Who's That Knocking Criterion.

Mean Streets is Warner so Criterion isn't an option.

Probably the greatest entrance in film history. Very rarely does an actor get an introduction like that that you know they're gonna be a star (like John Wayne in Stagecoach).

I've never seen this movie before but I'll definitely blind-buy it in day one as Martin Scorsese and DeNiro is a combination you can't go wrong with.

That just seems like too much to hope for. But I would definitely be ecstatic if it received a transfer like 'Taxi Driver' and 'The Last Temptation of Christ' (both films with much smaller budgets, and I always imagined 'The King of Comedy' looking spectacular in high-definition).

Well, maybe you SHOULD...

Not just for the cover art; according to the back cover of the WB US release, it only contains the commentary track and the 7-minute vintage featurette "Back on the Block", both ported from the DVD edition, as supplemental features, as opposed to

Quote:
  • Voyage a travers "Mean Streets" - a wonderful featurette in which director Martin Scorsese recalls how Mean Streets came to exist. In English, with optional French subtitles. (27 min, 1080/50i).
  • De Little Italy a Hollywood - film critic Kent Jones discusses Mean Streets. In English, with optional French subtitles. (21 min, 1080/50i).
  • Lumiere Instinctive - a video interview with cinematographer Kent L. Wakeford. In English, with optional French subtitles. (19 min, 1080/50i).
  • De retour dans son quartier - director Martin Scorsese talks about the city he grew up in, New York. In English, with optional French subtitles. (7 min, 1080/50i).
  • Les rues de "Mean Streets" - a fascinating look at the neighborhood where most of the action in Mean Streets takes place. In English, with optional French subtitles. (6 min, 1080/50i).
  • Home Movies - raw footage director Martin Scorsese shot while working on Mean Streets. Without sound. (11 min, 1080/50i).
  • Italianamerican - director Martin Scorsese interviews his parents. In English, with optional French subtitles. (48 min, 1080/50i).
  • Bande-annonce - the original theatrical trailer for Mean Streets. In English, with optional French subtitles. (4 min, 1080/50i).
on the French release.

So, tama, no regrets on keeping the French version.

From Svet Atanasov closing thoughts on that edition:

Quote:
French distributors Carlotta Films have put together an excellent package for director Martin Scorsese's legendary Mean Streets. Not only does the film look and sound terrific, but the Blu-ray disc also contains a number of excellent supplemental features. Let's hope that Warner Brothers will eventually treat the film with the same respect in the United States.
Well, apparently not.

Thank you, WB.
