Resistance updates and map pack

Insomniac look to be doing an incredible job of supporting Resistance after release. With R&C Future looking so awesome too, I've got a really strong feeling they're going to be huge this generation.

Multiplayer Team Lead Eric Ellis, Gameplay programmer Peter Kao, and CEO Ted Price lifted the lid on their secret plans to add brand new patches and a map pack in the coming months.

Worldwide online multiplayer in a future update with fixes for the resulting potential problems - excellent. I wonder if XMB friends list integration will come as well?

Thank god... I haven't played that game for a few weeks because i've gotten sick of the maps. It's the best online shooter so far, but that's because it has no other competition. I'm glad they'll be adding more maps.

are the maps soley for online play purposes or are the for regular gameplay as well?

They're solely for multiplayer. The IGN story has more detail.

I like resistance more than CoD because of the non-realistic element. I've played far too many CoD and MoH games over the years.

I havent has such a good time playing a mission based fps since half life 2. I really like the call of duty games as well, but resistance is great. you cant just gun and run. you really need to plan what weapons you are going to use.

The later May update will be free, but the two new maps are expected to be paid-content with no pricing announced yet.

The March update (which will be free) should be out in the next few days to coincide with the Euro Resistance release:

IGN: -- The new modes added in the March update are Team Conversion and Assault. What can you tell us about them (especially Assault)?

Peter Kao: Team Conversion is the same game mechanic as Conversion except that you play as a team. Both teams start human and have one life on each side. Assault is a mode based around the concept of attrition; wearing down an opponent's defenses before destroying their base. Each team has a base node that they must defend, and the goal is to attack and destroy the other team's base node. In addition, each team also begins the game with a set of base defenses and satellite nodes, which power those defenses. At the beginning of each round, a player can chose to spawn at their main base or any of their team's satellite nodes.

As is the case with the base node, these satellite nodes can also be attacked. In keeping with the attrition concept, the main base and satellite nodes are considerably stronger than in other modes. Satellite nodes also do not regenerate after taking damage, and cannot be captured by the opposing team. Once defeated, a corresponding portion of the team's base defenses are shut down. In addition, defeated nodes become neutral, allowing both teams to spawn at them. This rewards the offensive team with a forward spawn point while still giving the defending team a means of spawning outside of their main base.

IGN: Are there any other modifications/ adjustments that are being made for the March patch?

Ellis: Spectators can now join custom games and observe from the player POV and use a free-roam camera. We've made fixes for just about every glitch or collision hole in the game. We've made matchmaking even quicker and more reliable. We've brought back the old radar as a new custom game option for our nostalgic players. We've done some small tweaking to the weapons to improve balance even further.

I just downloaded the update and can say that it's pretty neat. Assault mode definately adds another element to breech. Now all they need to do is release the updated maps and I'll be all set.

Resistance is the first PS3 game to sell 1 million copies after just over 4 months with Euro sales only contributing starting last Friday. By comparison, last October it was announced that Perfect Dark Zero had sold 1 million copies (over 11 months after release).

Great numbers though. 1 million is bigger than Bond's number!

GameSpy have a big hands-on article with the new Resistance maps and latest patch! They have 5 new movies as well as the two screens below, unlike IGN the HD movies seem to be free to download.



Edit: Unfortunately their DL bandwidth is so crap it could take you half a day to get all 5 720p vids.

Looks like the update (including global servers) and map pack are coming today/tomorrow. There will be some downtime while the servers are patched for global play.

I agree, resistance got quite boring, its about time they added more. Also the update is free.
