I have noticed that when watching a blu ray the sound quality is not great. the sound is coming from my PS3 via the HDMI cable to the HDTV, so I assume that the TV speakers are not great which is a worry as its brand new!
Or the sound quality from the PS3/Movie is not great. The picture I was watching is Underworld. Could anyone advise if they have noticed that Underworld's sound quality is not good, of if it is good, any advice on a sound system would be welcome. One that is not overly expensive. I had a 5.1 system but its not got HDMI input. |

As the previous poster stated, you're trying to judge sound quality through your bullshit TV speakers. That's like trying to listen to an SACD with clock radio speakers. You need to invest in a good receiver that can decode the latest and greatest audio formats, and a good set of quality 5.1 (or higer) surround speaker set-up. And then be prepared to be awe struck.

I used to run a 5.1 setup through a decent Yamaha amplifier.
I now run 7.1 through a top notch AVR and watch Blu Rays. 3 weeks later I still have to occasionally pick my jaw off the ground. Sound from Blu through TV speakers is NOT going to be a good experience. In fact, you should expect the very same sound you'd get when hearing a DVD through your TV Speakers. What's your budget? If you post a specific dollar range it'll be much easier for peeps to offer advice on what you should get. There are some very good low and mid range AVR (Audio Visual Receivers) out there. You could likely recycle your existing 5.1 speakers. You just to upgrade your amp (unless it's one of those silly speakers that only plug into a certain amp). |

would be willing to spend £100 ($200) on a decent amp. I should be able to use the 5.1 speakers as they have bare wire that connects into my old surround sound system.
I never used the old system much was a cheapo system, but I think the speakers should be ok for a start anyway. I suspected that Underworld sound track would be ok, and it was my TV speakers that were letting me down. Nice to have someone confirm it though. |
