Both of these films are EPICS, but I find Titanic to be alot better than Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor has to be one of the most eye-roll inducing movies I've ever seen, if it weren't for the two or so set pieces that at least make the movie watchable I would call it one of the worst movies of all time.
Which do you think is better and why? |

Titanic was more emotionally captivating. Pearl Harbor was a movie I saw once and will probably never watch again. With Titanic, it captures you in a way that very few films can. A ship, this grand and beautiful ship, was destined to end up at the bottom of the sea. I'm not taking away from the actual events of Pearl Harbor, but that was war based. What makes Titanic so much more interesting, at least to me, is that it was nature that ended her life. It was in such a tragic and just an unheard of type of accident. The film captures the beauty, size, scope, and allure of Titanic. The real people were represented and were a back drop for a tragic romance that everyone (well mostly) got emotionally involved in. James Cameron created life out of death....and that says something.

That's a tad bit harsh, the Titanic sinking was a very tragic event, it wasn't just a boat sinking. Pearl Harbor may of had more of a driving force in history, but it was a part of a very long and dark era, with many historic days. Titanic was a very big event that stands on its own.

That aside they are both basically the same movie both are love stories set against historical events. The dialog in both films is laughable at times sounding very soap opera like. I do like both films they both have excellent sound design and are a workout for any HT. I have no preference to either one I find Titanic and Pearl Harbor both kind of boring until the bombing/Iceberg gets the films moving along. |

I'm going to the state the unpopular opinion and say Pearl Harbor. Not only did have a great cast. I mean this look at this list:

Titanic is hollywood spectacle of the highest order and Michael Bay is a hack whose command of cinema rises an inch above car commercials and victoria's secret ads. Not much of a contest IMO.

If I had to choose between these 2, Titanic is much better, but that isn't saying much. IMO, Pearl Harbor is terrible, like pretty much everything Michael Bay touches.
From a technical standpoint, Titanic is impressive, but the characters and dialogue leave a lot to be desired. I personally can't stand watching movies with one dimensional characters. |
