You can get a 5.1 receiver, but things are moving to 7.1. I had a 6.1 Yamaha 5940 and recently upgraded to the Onkyo 605. The sound is amazing. It is not overly priced to get HD sound. You wont be disappointed.

I'd use the forum search on this topic, there has been plenty of discussion on this matter and I'm sure you'll find useful information contained in them.

I've had a 6.1 setup for a while..... the thing that sucks is that not that many movies come with this audio setup! Most common is your 5.1, then I've noticed with the new wave of Blu's that 7.1 may be the next in line. Every once in a while I'll find a pleasant surprise movie released in 6.1. That solo rear channel tends 2 spook you out pretty good during horror flicks!
