Default $8.95 Blu-rays on Amazon?

I alway check the new releases on amazon every Wednesday morning. There are several new Blu-ray titles for April 1st release that are listed (currently) on amazon.com for $8.95:

Category 7: The End of the World
The Last Sentinal
Blackbeard
Curse of King Tut's Tomb

I don't recognize any of these titles. Anyone know more of the details?

Just a head's up.

Yeah. It's just that these are brand new titles, not BOGOs. With that price, it's rather remarkable.

Damn...it's almost cheaper to buy these titles than to rent...I haven't heard of any of them either though.

Those are my thoughts. Can a studio produce--and sell--Blu-ray disks for under $10 and still (presumably) make a profit?

Regardless if these titles aren't very good, if they can produce and sell them for this price, why do they need to sell so many other titles for $27.95, and up, on amazon?

The Sentinel is Keifer Sutherland and Micheal Douglas, a 24 like plot. Plot to kill the president and Secret Service has to stop it while chasing Douglas as a traitor. Well worth $9.00. Think I'll grab that one.

A couple of these were shown on Sci-Fi Channel. If you are a fan of so-bad-its-good or so-bad-its-fun-bad B- and Z-movies then the Sci-Fi Channel 9 PM (Eastern) Saturday nights is the place to be.
These are usually independent or sometimes foreign films that typically go straight to video. However, some do make a stop at late night cable before heading to DVD.
I personally wish they would release the classic Sabertooth or the sequel Attack of the Sabertooth on Blu-ray.

I was about to say the same thing, think I saw adverts for some of these cable specials pop up lately on channels like Discovery, Science, Sci-Fi etc.

Your other question is valid though, if a studio can produce anything on a Blu-Ray disc and make money, why are we being charged $29.99 or more for a new release... The simple answers are, they can make money in volume and they can charge that much because we as consumer let them.

With any new format the intial few months/years you see rediculous pricing while they try and make max profit for all the research and development.

21+ years later the music industry is still raking us over the coals for that $0.19 CD they MSRP for $15.99 at your local store.

There's some budget titles like Beer League being released on 4/1.

I believe the studio is Echo Entertainment or something like that.

I was interested in the mummy stuff. The only thing though, I'm feeling that these are going to be 1080i and horrid transfers. I'd like to have a documentary on King Tut's tomb. At least I think its a documentary. It says mini-series, so its either a doc or a horrible made for tv movie that spans a week like Stephen King made for tv movies.
