Synopsis:
It is the 7th century and in Mecca, where powerful leaders are in conflict with Mohammad who attacks the many injustices their way of life produces – slavery, drunkeness and cruelty. Mohammad claims to have seen a vision of the Angel Gabriel and calls to the people of Mecca to worship one God only. After a revelation from God, Mohammad agrees to take arms against Mecca and at the Wells of Bedr the inexperienced Moslem troops are victorious. However, at the Battle of Uhud they are beaten. They accept a ten year truce, so that they can continue to spread the word of God. Mohammad is the prophet... The Messenger of God.

Lion of the Desert is a 1981 Libyan historical action film starring Anthony Quinn as Libyan tribal leader Omar Mukhtar, a Bedouin leader fighting the Italian army in the years leading up to World War II and Oliver Reed as Italian General Rodolfo Graziani, who attempted to defeat Mukhtar. It was directed by Moustapha Akkad and funded by the government under Muammar Gaddafi.[1] Released in May 1981, the film was liked by critics and audiences but performed poorly financially, bringing in just $1 million dollars net worldwide.

Just ordered The Message, price has dropped to £10. Can't wait to watch this in Blu-ray, hopefully it will have a great transfer.

Both of these are 1080/29.87i encodes with LPCM 2.0 and DTS-HD MA 5.1. No bonus material with either (despite the AB website claims that The Message has an Arabic language option). At first glance neither of them look that great.

Are you sure? They say its the 2 Disc version so whats in the 2nd disc then? How come there are no extras like The Making which was included in the DVD which I saw long ago!

Yes, the transfer is very good, much better than the DVD version. It comes with 2 discs, one Blu-ray in English and a DVD in Arabic. It has no special features.

Lion of the desert is CROPPED! Yes, they cut the sides of. What kind of moron at Anchor Bay came up with that idea? This movie should be seen in it's original aspect ratio.

I think The Message is cropped as well because it's in full screen and the original aspect ratio had the black bars above and below.

In the scenes where the prophet is, we are watching the unfolding through his eyes (the camera), there is no actor playing the prophet Mohammed.

Ok let me re phrase my question. I do remember that in the DVD release there were special features having making of The Message and the movie soundtrack too. What I dont remember is that if it was the UK or US dvd.

Both US and UK was released by Starz / Anchor Bay so i need to know that is it the problem of "Rights" or what that they cant release extras in other territories other than US? Anyone who has knowledge please do reply that why they omit the extras in bd version?
