Default Patiently Waiting....

for the REAL deal. I just bought a new entertainment setup and am waiting for Sony to develop a reliable Blu-Ray player. I want a Blu-Ray player badly, but I'm holding off until I see where someone makes a breakthrough and all these firmware updates and Beta quality units are history.

Anyone know when it's coming?????

It's called the Panasonic DMP-BD50. I'm returning my BD30 this weekend to have money for that bad boy.

It seems like everything I read and everyone I speak to has problems. I have heard the Ps3 is the most reliable, but then I was waiting in line at BB last week and a guy in front of me said his Ps3 just stopped playing...games, movies, everything. I'm also not really interested in purchasing another game system.

A possibility for sure.

I suppose every device has a potential to fail, but as far the high failure rate you've been hearing about, I don't know what to say 'cause I haven't heard it. I have heard of some issue's with some Samsung's though. And I think the ps3 is great, I actually have two of them and they're both very reliable. If you were to get one and were unlucky enough for it to fail. It will be under warranty. The ps3 is also future proof as far as updating to the latest profiles.

Edit: I just noticed you don't want a game system. You could just pretend it doesn't play games

Why doesn't Sony just make a standalone unit that matches the Ps3 quality and reliability instead of wasting their time with all their wannabe models? Not everyone wants a game system in order to get a decent Blu-Ray player.
It seems silly to me to have a Blu-Ray player and have to buy a remote control for it as a separate item. So, the Ps3 problems are few and far between?

I'm sure Crackin will be able to give you a more educated guess than mine, but I suspect it's probably because both are Sony's baby so they want to kill two birds with one stone, and push both in one unit. Good question though, I'm curious if someone has a worthy answer for it.

if you're so anti-game machine for whatever reason, just get the Panasonic DMP-BD50 when it comes out
