Default Blu-ray on my PC

Hello all im new to this so bare with me!.
Here is my problem .I have had mycurrent set up for about 18 mnths and all is well ,I am able to play DVD,High Def from downloaded samples etc.
Acouple of weeks ago i decided to invest in a Blu-Ray drive(PioneerBDC-S02)
I only want this for playback of movies (its not a BD writer). It comes complete with Cyberlink BD sollutions c/w Power DVD 7.3(after downloading update)
I keep my PC up to date with all the latest drivers (Graphics,Sound etc) and have the latest Nvidia drivers (169.21) .When i try to play a BD Power DVD reports that my driver is incompatible and asks me to check if my PC meets min requirments and as far as i can see it does .I know my Graphics card is not HDCP (but I have a software sollution for that) This message is as far as i get though.I have a HD Scape Sampler disk, if i open this disk in 'My Computer' open the BDV Folder then the STREAM folder I can find some of the video files on the disk and open them in 'Power DVD' and the HD quality is superb.
Sorry to go on but has anyone come accross this before or is there somthing not right with my PC .What i have read so far suggests the OEM software is no good and I would have to invest in POWER DVD Ultra but im loathed to throw more money at it for the same result.
Help Please
Regards

Ok, you say you have a software solution for HDCP (anydvd hd I assume). How is your monitor connected to your computer, VGA or DVI? If its connected VGA you should not have any problems at all. If its connected via DVI you may still be having some type of handshake issue. What's your system specs?

First, I see some of your specs in your signature (tks) Is your processor a Pentium D? If it is, your running in the minimum spec for BD playback - I would recommend an upgrade to a Core 2 Duo or above. Upgrade your ram to 2 gigs if you are running XP 32bit addition. Check your video card manufaturer and see if Purevideo HD is enabled on this card (it should be if I'm not mistaken). Finnaly try the trial download of TotalMedia Theater
http://www.arcsoft.com/support/downl...downloadid=384 and see if that works for you. In all actuallity the 8 series cards work better for BD playback. They are fairly inexpensive - you might want to go that route.

Hi thanks for your reply ,i agree that my procsesors on the fringe and my graphics card due an upgrade but at a pinch i should be able to playback Blu-Ray to some degree .The card does support 'Pure Video HD' .
I use the Panasonic Pta900 (720p) for watching movies and this is connected to the graphics card via the dedicated HD analogue output.(have tried DVI but made no difference)
My monitor (DVI) is mainly used for Windows apps.
When /iff I get the Cyberlink software to work i will look at upgrading components on my pc .
Cyberlinks 'Clever' utility Cyberlink Advisor. reports that my driver is 'Incompatible 'even though shows the latest Nvidia Drivers are installed.Strange EH!!
Nero7's 'Infotool' shows that my driver is up to date and ok but Nero7 does not play comercial BD(ie Movies) without upgrading(££££) to Nero 8+ Blu-ray plug in.
The Bundled 'Power DVD should work to some degree with my set up even if its just sound and/or a stuttery picture but falls down at the first fence .
Any input is very gratefully received
regards

Don't try it with that setup, you'll need a Radeon HD 2400 to be safe, as my Dual Core Pentium D 3.6GHz, could'n't play MPEG 4 AVC high bitrate films without sluttering with a Radeon X1650 XT so a 7900, won't help you a lot. Spend around $40 US for a Radeon HD 2400 XT (Gigabyte is good, or Saphaire, stay away from other brands), if you want acceptable Blu-ray playback. If you're monitor isn't HDCP compliant, just go with VGA, no studios use ICT, it's illegal in Japan, and you get full resolution. Hope this helps. Anyway, with the Radeon HD 2400 XT, my 3.6GHz machine sometimes hits the high 40%'s during high bit rate (35-42MBps), movies, so be safe and go with a Radeon HD 2400 XT, since your CPU isn't at 3.4GHz, which is actually reccommended by Cyberlink paired with a Radeon HD 2400 or higher. Also you may want to overlock your CPU to 3.4GHz to be safe as well (Clockgen, if BIOS doesn't work), as not even a Dual Core Core 2 Duo at 2.16GHz could decode at high bitrate Blu-ray Movie without dropping frames, with a Radeon X1950 which is okay, like your graphics card. You will be okay for VC1 and MPEG 2 though.

I will be getting a new BD-Rom from Sony which is $199 from Best Buy right now. I hope my video card will be fine since it is a 6800GT but the rest of my computer is brand spanking new;

Intel Core 2 Duo Quad Core Q6700
2GB Corsair XMS 800mhz
256MB Nvidia 6800GT
Soon to have Sony BD-Rom BDU-X10S
1TB HD Space
24" LG LCD L245WPBN With HDMI In & VGA (supports 1080P)

I will be ordering the drive probably next month since I might upgrade my video card and the new Nvidia 98xx series should be out by then.

whoa whoa whoa, he has the 4th most powerful GPU on the planet man, don't tell him to downgrade a graphics card. That card should be HDCP complaint aswell. Go to Nvidia's website and update drivers. If your Monitor isn't HDCP compliant then you're screwed.

6800 isn't HDCP compliant, try a newer card. 7800 will even do.

It would be a mistake to assume that powerful graphics cards are HDCP compliant. One of my PC has a very powerful FireGL card in it, and it's not HDCP. When specifying graphics cards you MUST first check that it is HDCP compliant.

WARNING... Some cards are listed as HDCP compatible, but you can find that this means they are compatible with new drivers, which are not always available from more obscure companies.

I would suggest nVidea 8800 series. they are compatible.

Sorry it took a while to get back with you. You have the project right above mine (I have the 700 both of ours are 1280x720 native and maximum res of 1920x1080). You are definately having processor issues - trust me. Open your system monitor while playing a BD and see how much processor power is being used - I'm only using about 19% when I'm playing BD's. You should also look at any programs you may have running in the backround to include your anti-virus program - make sure its off. Let me know what happens.

My Core2duo does a fine job - without dropping frames (E6400). I'm using a Geforce 8500gt, several reviews found that the Nvidia card (must be an 8 series card) does a better job at HD than the Radeon. (Just to be fair, I also use Rivatuner to OC my video card). Your system sounds nice too.

With that set up - you need to go to an 8 series card. The 6 series cards are not PureVideo Hd compliant. Get a new 8 series video card and your PC will be smokin'!!!!

I believe the 7 series cards don't off-load any VC1 or AVC HD video decoding from the CPU, which then has to do all the work. The nVidia 8500 & 8600 and ATI 2400 & 2600 do this. Maybe a few newer high power ones as well, but it's still not many. I don't think the 7800 does it at all. A powerful GPU is not necessarily the solution.

Hi sorry for my delay last few days have been a nightmare ,anyway still cant get past the 'graphics card driver incompatability' on Power DVD Ultra even though i have the latest driver installed find it srange also that the 7900GT is not listed as one of there supported cards yet the 7600GT is and yet its specs ar not as good.
ANY DVD Hd allows you to rip the BD to your hardrive and i can playback the indervidual video files in HD and this is using about 50-60% Cpu power.

I believe the 7600GT generally DOES have HDCP, and the 7900GT generally does NOT. I also think neither will off-load HD video dcoding from the CPU, which seems to be pretty important. In broad terms, HDCP was not implemented in GPUs two years ago. There is a similar situation with newer cards. The 8600 range can often do what the 8800 cannot, though that is changing.

Go with a 8400 or above - problem will be solved.

7600 gt is not HDCP compliant (people said it was, but in fact it isn't - learned this the hard way about a year ago).

Say what?
Then why can I play Blu-ray on this machine and HDMI it to a neighbor's HDTV and it still work?

Isn't that a laptop? The card in the laptop is HDCP compliant (worked that out with Sony if I'm not mistaken). I think thats the 7600gt Go card. But the one off the shelf (at least the PNY model wasn't . That's how I wound up buying my 8500gt - best move I made. I think your laptop aslo passes HDMI sound right? It was well configured for what it was ment to due...ahead of time.
