Default Metal pack or steelbook

Where does everyone stand in the metal pack vs steelbook world. I love Steelbooks and haven't had any experience with metal packs yet. Finding out The Avengers futureshop is a metal pack is kind of worrying me when it comes to quality and collectibility. Let me know what you think

I'm sure you meant metal box rather than metal pack. Personally I like both, but if I had to choose I'd go with Steelbooks.

Both of them can be worth something and also makes your collection look pretty (except for the G1).

Yeah they aren't Metal packs you are referring to, its Viva Metal Box, the same company that makes Blu-ray cases. Viva Elite cases for example.

The quality for Metal Boxes are top notch, but the spine isn't as well designed as Steelbooks. So Steelbook of course wins.

I love the look of steelbooks, but the Iron Man 2 target exclusive is a Metal Pak and it's my favorite looking case. I agree with the previous post that the spine does not look as nice as compared to a steel book though. What other movies have been made available as Metal Paks? I only have the one.

Steelbooks will always be king in my book but viva metal boxes are getting better and starting to grow on me.

They just need to work on that damn spine. It's very fragile and doesn't look quite right for some reason but the artwork is lovely on some of them (Bambi, John Carter, Muppets)

Yup, this is my biggest issue with the Viva metal cases. The spines are very poorly made and it feels like they could break very easily.

The option I would choose is not listed, so I'm not voting.

I would have selected, "Whichever offers the nicest artwork design."

The steelbook is not superior to the Viva cases or any other metal case. They are slightly different in design, but offer high quality packaging with nice artwork.

I'm getting tired of saying it, but it really irks me that there is this elitist attitude developing towards the whole scenario.

This thread is a mess because of the title.

People are commenting on the MetalPaks when it is clear the OP is asking about Viva MetalBoxes.

The VMB is as good, or better, than SteelBooks, IMO. JW would have thrown me out of the forum for saying that, but he's no longer a mod now.

I have found fewer flex problems with VMBs over SBs, and I think all VMBs have an embossed border around them.

The spines are different. However, there is actually a lot of plastic in the spine of the SB, whereas the VMB spine is actually made of metal and hinged. It would be much harder to customize a VMB because it is not sticker-art, it is actually painted-on art on the inside spine.

Anyways, we are splitting hairs, but I am just as happy with the quality and design of the VMB as the SB.
