"Director Stephen Frears returns to the grittier themes of his earlier films for the urban thriller Dirty Pretty Things. Residing in London, the medically trained Okwe (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is a Nigerian immigrant working as a taxi driver and a hotel concierge, but he still lives on the edge of poverty. He shares a room with Senay (Amélie's Audrey Tautou making her English-language debut), a Turkish refugee who works as a maid at the hotel. As illegal immigrants, Okwe and Senay live in fear of being deported. One night, working at the front desk, Okwe receives a call from prostitute Juliette (Sophie Okonedo) to check a broken toilet, where he makes a horrifying discovery. He reports it to the manager Sneaky (Sergi Lopez), who blackmails Okwe into staying quiet about it. Okwe soon discovers the presence of a shady business operation that sends him into the seedy London underworld. Senay becomes lured in with hopes of being able to fund her escape to America. I just came from Best Buy, and they have it in the Miramax $5.99 bin, along with the rest of the Echo Bridge new BD releases. I've bought:

The Faculty
The Impostor
"O", and Darkness.

I fixed the link, although bestbuy.com lists a July 17 release date some locations have the blu-ray avaliable for purchase now.

I noticed each individual thread for this wave of Miramax Echo Bridge blu-rays has turned into a free-for-all about corresponding releases. I am interested in reports about Dirty Pretty Things, which is an excellent film I saw in theathers and multiple times on DVD. I advise you pick up the blu (and report back on quality), returning O or Impostor if you have to.

Get it and report back. The film is good and it's unlikely Echo Bridge horribly butchered the release (especially considering their track wave on The Faculity and Darkness with this wave). If I can find it I will be purchasing it without pause.

Unfortunately, it's so miserably hot outside now (95 F) that a 20+min drive back to BB does not sound appealing at all. Specially since I'm sitting here with the AC on.

Yeah, I figured that since The Faculty and Darkness got good reviews, Dirty Pretty Things should be safe. But, I chickened out. Plus I was already getting 3 movies and had 2 stops to make, including FYE. Now I wish I had just grabbed it.

Screens aren't coming, sorry. One of my applications can't read it the disc.

It is a BD-25, though.

The application I usually use to take screens is MPC-HC. I am using VLC Media Player here because of... issues. I have compared most of them with how they look on my calibrated HDTV. They look extremely close. Take what you will with that info. Also note that I loathe VLC.

Follow the link for each image and click on the screen for the full, lossless 1920x1080 resolution.

I think it looks decent enough for a $5.99 purchase. You'll notice in some of the scenes that the frame is uneven on the right side. This is an example:



As for the audio, I saw it above 3mbps on my PS3 at times.
