In my bedroom I have a 32 inch LCD. I don't sit more than 5 ft away from the screen. Right now I have 2 Polk M10 bookshelf speakers but I'd like to have speakers that can give deeper bass. I have a subwoofer that came with my Yamaha speaker system that I'm not using right now because it's either: if I want to use the subwoofer I have to use the Yamaha satellite speakers placed on my TV stand or if I want to use my Polk bookshelf speakers placed on speaker stands then I can't use my subwoofer due to lack of space taken up by the speaker stands, so there are compromises being made in both configurations. This is in my parent's house in my bedroom which is already crowded thanks to a bed and a computer work area. If I want deeper bass it's either buy floor standing speakers or bigger bookshelf speakers or use my Yamaha satellite speakers with my Yamaha subwoofer. I was thinking about getting the Pioneer SP-FS51-LR floor standing speakers. How is the bass without a subwoofer? I'm basically looking for a 2.0 system that has deep enough bass not to need a subwoofer and is good for sitting 5 ft away.

You need to go with a subwoofer. There's lots of speakers with decent bass - but to get the subwoofer tones, you have to raise the volume pretty high. I wouldn't do that. Look at an inexpensive (and therefore small) subwoofer, if the Yamaha isn't doing the job.

Don't know why you can't run a sub. I understand space is a constraint, but there are plenty of low cost, well performing subs that weren't that big. Take a look at the parts express 10" or 12", I believe both are under $100 and not that large.
Related note, that line of Pioneers are excellent speakers (albeit a bit unattractive), but THE best value speakers in at least double their price range (I'd even dare say up to 3-4x their price). Last edited by jsr; 06-29-2012 at 03:29 AM. |
