Heading out to Jacksonville for the weekend. What's there to do family wise? any advice?

The zoo is pretty nice... The Suns are in town this weekend... If you guys like baseball, Suns games are great... Nice minor league stadium and dirt cheap...

If you've got small kids(3-12 or so) you could hit M.O.S.H. They've got a planetarium and do music laser shows at night...

What are you guys into?

Also, Lettuce.... just what Skunkape78 posted. Zoo would be a great place to bring your child. It's actually not as hot this time of the year for some reason so I would take advantage of the outdoors. If you want to check out downtown, watch the Jacksonville Suns play. They always have beer specials

If you want to do some shopping, check out the St Johns Town Center. That's the hang out place for everyone the past few years.

Other than that, our city is not like Orlando. You can keep driving down here for 2 hours and still be in Duval county. You'll see more trees than buildings in some places.

Yep, they really made vast improvements at the zoo.. When I was a kid it was not very good, but it's a lot of fun now.. We always get annual passes and go a lot each year, kids love it... (My kids are going to the alligator farm today with camp, I forgot about that!)

Also, to the OP, St. Augustine has some cool stuff if you're into historic buildings, forts, etc...

Whenever we take the kids to Disney, I’ll be making a special trip out of my way to go through Jacksonville and give Mac one of these in person…..

Thanks guy. Gonna be staying near Ponte Vera beach. Hit the ocean in the am. Let the little one experience his first beach. Then hit up downtown jacksonville. Hopefully it won't rain. Where is this town centre at Cruz? I want to stop by the stadium and take pics

If you are coming from Ponte Vedra the Town Center is just off Butler BLVD past the I295 intersection.

I have experienced this St Johns Town Center. I have to say it is amazing. It's an outside mall. Not like the one in orlando (waterford lakes town centre). This is an actual mall. with Express, Gap, Hollister, Coach, etc.. Too bad it started raining. Now looking to find somewhere to eat. Gonna hit up St Augustine in the morning.

Sounds like you picked a bad weekend. It's been raining in central and north Florida pretty much nonstop since Saturday night/Sunday morning with no end in sight thanks to this tropical storm that formed in the Gulf and can't make up it's mind where it wants to go.

Yea, everything here is flooded... I had to drive through roads that were under water to get here and my coworker didn't even make it in. We are all surprised that the school is still open...

Actually it didn't rain the whole day in Saturday. We were at the stadium and stopped at the market place. It sorta rained a little heading out to st johns town centre. But when we were leaving the centre that's when it started pouring. Then Sunday we headed up to st Augustine and it wasnt that bad just cloudy and sprinkle. All in all I had a well needed weekend

I'm headed down that way on Tuesday night. Flying in to Jacksonville, a few days at Amelia Island and then heading down to Orlando for a couple days.

Unfortunately, I'll be meeting my parents who are providing the transportation, so I doubt I can convince them to help.
