I've never watched any Hammer Horror films but my mum used to and she liked them. I'll have to buy some eventually.

Well I'd have to disagree with the original poster. There's been no Hammer "classics" released on Blu-ray yet. I'm thinking of all the great stuff from, The Curse Of Frankenstein to The Kiss Of The Vampire. When all this lark started we were supposed to get Blu's of The Curse Of Frankenstein & Dracula, but no sign yet.

That's a matter of opinion. I would class Dracula Prince Of Darkness, Quatermass and the Pit and Plague of the Zombies all as classics in their own right and easily up there with the early gothics.

The Devil Rides Out (my personal Hammer favourite) is also apparently getting a release before the end of the year courtesy of Studio Canal.

I like that one too but I'm fairly certain I read that it won't be out until 2013 at the earliest. Probably on that blog somewhere.

True, just my opinion. Those three are very good films, but I think they fall short of the early stuff. I did see Dracula: Prince Of Darkness at the cinema when it first came out, & it's a very good movie (but I don't like Dracula's anemic demise). For me the last of the classic releases was the double bill, Paranoric & Kiss Of The Vampire, but I do very much like the double bill Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb/The Gorgon plus The Evil Of Frankenstein & The Lost Continent. The good news is that, Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb, The Gorgon & The Terror Of The Tongs look fantastic on the Sony R1 DVD's. And The great looking Universal Hammer DVD set is a must have for Hammer fans.

My Universal set now suffers from the dreaded DVD-18 syndrome but luckily the only film affected at the moment is Paranoiac and I have the Eureka BD.

The last I read in their blog is the 4k scan of Curse of Frankenstein has been completed and is being examined.

The situation I gather from their comments is that they have rights to certain titles, which will be done first over 18 months. Then after that, they'll talk to rights partners about restoring other titles if this first wave does well. I imagine that would include the Universal and Sony titles. Rights seem to have shuffled around a bit recently so I have no idea who has what anymore.

What it does mean is we'll probably have to wait for titles like Vengeance of She and Viking Queen to be done before we may see something like Kiss of the Vampire. Sadly, Kiss just got a new release in the UK but DVD only.

Here is the list of what will definitely be worked on taken from their restoration blog, two of which are already for preorder and I think there will be two further in 2012

THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN
THE MUMMY
FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL
CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER
RASPUTIN THE MAD MONK
THE DEVIL RIDES OUT
THE MUMMY’S SHROUD
THE VIKING QUEEN
THE VENGEANCE OF SHE
SLAVE GIRLS
THE WITCHES

Re: DEVIL RIDES OUT, I posted on their blog about it stating I hoped it would be out for Halloween. They responded that they're doing what they can and are working on it. I don't expect for then, as RASPUTIN and MUMMY'S SHROUD are due in September, and October seems rather close for a following pair.

Also, Don from Synapse stated on FB that he hopes to have HANDS OF THE RIPPER and HAMMER HOUSE OF HORRORS tv series done by December.

I ordered these 4 titles that shipped from UK Sat. 6/30 So I should have them possibly in the next couple of days.

Quatermass and the Pit
Dracula: Prince of Darkness
The Plague of the Zombies
The Reptile

I haven't seen any of the above titles at all... btw are these titles still including a slipcover?
