I don't know, but I'm pretty sure the US version is region-free. Check it out.

BTW it's in 1080p format - the max on my telly is 1080i, I have 720p also I presume it'll downscale it automatically to that resolution (1080i)?

Also would there be a noticable difference in picture quality?

If you set your player to 720p/1080i output it should look great.
I'm still slightly in the blue about it all until I get my ps3.. All I can say is Virgin Media HD looks awesome on my 720p tv.
