Default Amazon Japan SteelBooks

Has anyone had any bad experiences ordering from Amazon Japan? Is the packaging sufficient enough for SteelBooks to survive the journey unblemished? I'm thinking about ordering some Japanese SteelBooks perhaps, such as The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger on the front face, for instance.

Also, I'm setting up an account on Amazon Japan and on the account form, it is asking for a Phonetic (フリガナ) entry. I can see this says "furigana" in katakana since I have an elementary understanding of Japanese, so does the form just want my English name in katakana or should I just type my name in roman characters?

Why? Just sign in using your existing Amazon account.

Won't work, for Amazon JP you need to create a new account even if you are already an Amazon member.

Has that always been the case? I just signed in using my existing account info and ordered.

I think they shipped Fedex to me, and I got nailed with additional import fees at my door, which wasn't completely unexpected.

It's not as good as Play.com's steelbook packaging.

They use that for your shipping label (and possibly for credit card checks as well), I think. I doubt your local delivery driver wants anything other than English addresses using Roman alphabet.

I ordered three of these (Seven, Blade Runner and The Matrix) last Monday for delivery to the UK. They shipped Tuesday; on Thursday I had to pay a customs charge over the phone, and they would have been delivered yesterday - but as they need to be signed for, I had to arrange for them to be delivered to my work address.

I'll get them Monday - will post back about packaging etc then.

when i ordered a steelbook off them before th ey sent it in a tissue paper thing carboard evnlope via dhl express to canada it did show up fine though.

bet way to set up the account on the site is use google crome so it will translate everything to english.

if ur asking about were is say Name Pronunciation i just typed out my name again it worked fine. really i highly doubt it matters what name u put as long as address is right the delvery people on your end will beable to figure it out.

ok Yes, I had it translated but just wanted to know why they wanted 'Phonetic' in addition to my name. I'll just type phonetic in katakana and keep my name in English I guess. Yes, the name and address in English are the most important thing for us over here

Hi. Sorry to butt in, this customs charging thing, is this new?

I mean. In the past dhl have delivered goods and then a few weeks down the road, an invoice would turn up.

Is this not the case any more?

What's with this phoning for a payment before delivering the package. Damn, I hadn't budgeted for that this month

Pacakaging is not the best to be honest, I ordered TDK last week and it arrived super fast without any damage but it wouldn't have surprised me if it was dented.

Also since I ordered a single steelbook I wasn't charged any customs fees as amazon.jp only listed the amount I had payed for the steelbook itself and not the delivery cost (which was actually more then the steel)

Well ordering 7 steels will be high.

Well I just did a rough calculation on a duty calculator and for 7 (if each is about £22) you're looking at the following.

Total customs value: £175.00
- Duty: £0.00
- VAT: £35.00
Total import duty & taxes due: £35.00
Total landed cost: £210.00

I wonder who the courier from Japan to the uk will be, and will it be invoice in the post or phone call before delivering or demand for cash when dropping off package

Depends who it is but SOP seems to be they ring you and tell you to pay, then you can tell them to deliver at a certain time of pick up at a depot yourself depending on which service is bringing it in.

Different companies charge different fees as well. I have a big gripe with customs and that's because they absolutely make it almost impossible to import what you really want to in larger quantities.

Yeah. It's the Warner white blu steels I want. I'm not prepared to pay someone £60 for one on flea bay, that's too much mark up.

Amazon Japan is over priced shipping, so you have to buy more to counteract the shipping price. Then you get stung duty, import tax and courier handling fee.

Years ago, packages were picked at random to be charged. Now it seems to be everything charged. Well for me. That's when I imported from amazon us

out of the 7 i have had from amazon Japan, 3 came badly dented, 2 were in the flimsy card things and the other in a box, the box was squashed flat so the sleebook was totaly smashed up, amazon did send replacments though, only problem was I then had to pay more customs charges
