Default Does anyone run 2 PS3's

Hey everyone. So I have 2 PS3's now. I used to have 2 before. Anyways, back then me and my boy tried to play MW2. It would not let us. Figured we would try again. Im wondering if anyone else does this. If so do you just run your systems regular or do I have to set up one of them different? Thanks.

Have you made another PSN account for your son? Your son may need to have his Email address to do so, but you can make another PSN account for free otherwise. You should be able to use 2 PS3s (unless you mean running 2 PS3s on the same TV, which I think Modern Warfare 2 doesn't have split screen for online, Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 I believe can do this).

Hmmm... that's weird. How exactly would it "not let you play MW2 together?"

Do you each have separate PSN IDs? If so, and you have 2 copies of the game, I don't see why it wouldn't let you play together. Even though you are on the same internet feed, you still have 2 separate IP addresses with which to connect together with.

Or perhaps you are trying to connect with each other strictly via the home network and not the internet? Is that possible with MW2? I'm not familiar with whether there is local network multiplayer support.

2 PS3s on the same TV would work fine so long as each PS3 had an independent connection to separate inputs on the TV, allowing for the TV itself (should it support the feature) to do a PiP or splitscreen effect by assigning each screen with the appropriate input.

2 PS3s linked directly together wouldn't work for this though.

Might be your internet speed. If both consoles are on the same service, as I understand it you're essentially splitting the speed between both units. If you've got a computer on, someone streaming a movie on a tv in another room, or any other internet enabled devices going, that's bogging down your service even further. And if you've got Windstream, many areas aren't getting what they're paying for, because Windstream has more customers than their lines can handle and they dragged their feet too long before beginning to upgrade their infrastructure. Supposedly it's not just a problem with Windstream, according to Windstream. But that means that during peak hours, when your neighbors are home watching netflix or their kids are out of school playing videogames, your service could be compromised too.

1.5mbs should be plenty to game online, if it were one console and that's all you were doing online. For two PS3s running at the same time, you would want at least a 3mbs connection, which would drop each consoles speed down to 1.5mbs, assuming you're actually getting 3mbs at that time. If you've got a 1.5 mb service that's being split, which will often give you actual speeds lower than 1mbs, you're going to get kicked out of PSN.

I don't think it's that. i think I asked this before. But yeah I think it has to do with using the same modem and IP address of some sort. I'm lost.

I used to back in early last year so that my wife could watch Netflix in the bedroom and Blu rays, and I used mine in the main for BD/PS3 gaming. Now we just have a BD player in the bedroom for Netflix.

You don't by chance have both PS3s set to the same static IP address?

I'm not sure what the difference is between IP address and static IP address let alone how to set it up.I will google it and hopefully find some answers. I did check the settings and both have different IP's.

Our router won't even allow two devices to run the same IP address. A couple times it's happened and a message popped up that the program had to close for that reason and to contact a system administrator to get it fixed. Though it fixed itself by unplugging the router for a few seconds.

I had similar issues when my brother stayed with me and we tried to play UC2 together online

It is most likely a router configuration issue. Just google how to configure two ps3s on the same router. You will want the ps3s using a static IP and then you will have too set up port forwarding.

I was also wondering what kind of router everyone was using. At the moment I have a belkin wireless N+ I got back about 3 or more years ago. I just bought a linksys e2500(unopened). So debating if that would be the right router for me or not.

I had a similar issue trying to play any online game with my sister when we shared an internet connection. It is a router issue that I was never able to solve. Tried statis IP addressing both PS3s, port forwarding even putting them in a DMZ zone (never really understood what that actually does but it didn't help). Was never able to play on the same game server as my sister on any game.

Only way I know around the issue is to play on the same machine (split screen) or get a 2nd internet connection run to your house. If your son is on wifi maybe he can "borrow" (preferably with their permission) a neighbor's internet connection while you two want to game together. Of course some games also have a LAN (Local-area-network) option built in that would bypass the main problem but I believe that restricts you from online play and would just be the two of you.

Games might do this on purpose to stop localised boosting, has anyone thought of that?

Online games require specific ports to be open on a router. Most routers have an internal firewall that blocks certain traffic.

You either set one PS3 to the DMZ which puts it outside of your routers firewall so that no ports are being blocked. The other PS3 has to be setup in the router to have the specific ports forwarded to it's IP address. Or you can port forward both PS3s if you don't want to put your PS3 in the DMZ.

I'm pretty sure this is just general networking issues with the PSN setup rather then something game developers are doing.

There are directions out there specific to most routers, just do a google search.

D-Link DIR-825 Extreme-N Dual-Band Gigabit Router, which I was able to setup and run two PS3s off of one Internet connection. We've played Uncharted 2 and BC2 multiplayer.

Good to hear,
me and my uncle both play our ps3s in the same house right next to each other, never had a problem.

Glad to hear getting a new router fixed it, funny how many problems can get fixed that way.

Its the router I had the same issues. There is a setting in the router preventing it from happening. I bought a new router and issue was fixed.
