Garfield has been a better actor in all of his movies over Tobey Maguire in all of his movies (not just the spider-man's.)

When Tobey cried, i felt like punching him. When Garfield cried, i felt like crying. That's how much of a gulf there was between the emotional involvement each of their performances had on me.

Garfield is the true version of Peter Park/Spiderman that belongs on the screen imo. At least until somebody else comes and shatters his performance which seems unlikely.

I can't be completely down on Tobey though, as he was decent, but just not the Parker that should have been on the big screen. His Spiderman was probably the stronger one of the characters in his movies when compared to how he played Parke which is wrong to have. It should be both Peter Park and Spiderman who have an equal amount of pull as characters just like The Amazing Spiderman gives us.

Andrew Garfield.
I liked Tobey but apart from his weird crying scenes. Plus he looked too old. Spidey is supposed to be a kid.

Since the question is who is a better spiderman.
It is Garfield.

But who is a better Peter Parker. That belongs to Tobey.

But one thing I hate for both spiderman "series" is why their masks get removed/torn or whatever so many times per film.

Tobey McGuire looked the part and did an excellent job of playing a introverted nerd. But, as everybody else complains about, he whines so much it becomes sappy.

Andrew Garfield has both attitude and emotional strength to the character, making his character stand out more. Overall his look, his expressions, and the way he handled things was deeper, had greater subtlety, and served to bring the character to more vivid life.

So yeah, I voted for Andrew.

Totally agree on that... Voted for Garfield as well, a better performance and he looked more like the Spiderman from the comics in the suit... add to that Emma Stone as a lovely Gwen Stacy and well...

I voted for Tobey. I think both movies were different and the scripts were different. One was more comic like and the other a little more "dark"?

I prefer Tobey. He made for a more convincing nerd and although I liked Garfield's portrayal, he was too angst-ridden for my tastes.

Garfield for sure. I've never cared for the Raimi films beyond the first one, which I somewhat enjoyed, and Maguire's performance/character was part of the reason.

Garfield's most certainly the better and more believable Spidey. Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker has aged horribly, though I can still enjoy him.

I like the original trilogy a lot more (so far) so I went with tobey. When I see Andrew Garfield I think of bob saget from full house. Plus I thought the 2012 movie was pretty bad lol. Hopefully the second is better
