![]() ![]() Benny's Video, which I consider one of the best films from one of the most interesting filmmakers working today, Michael Haneke, is now available to preorder from the French market. More info Blu-ray.com: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Benny...Blu-ray/49605/ IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103793/ |

This won't be an English-friendly release, BluPix, but let's hope that Artificial Eye will bring this film to Blu-ray in the UK. They will be putting out Amour in Q1 2013, so hopefully the early Haneke films will start showing up.

I will be very happy when they do. I have held off buying them on DVD because of the converted transfers (in the USA), and general bad quality of most of his earlier films on DVD, but hopefully MK2 and Artificial Eye will help rectify that. In particular, I'm after seeing his adaptation of Kafka's The Castle (which is only available from Artificial Eye in the Haneke box sets), as well as Blu-ray versions of The Piano Teacher and Funny Games.

Thanks for the tip, Pro-B. Looks as if I'll have to keep waiting a little while longer for some of the Haneke classics.

I'm happy to say that BENNY'S VIDEO is English friendly! But you must click on Supplements in the Main Menu and choose English subs. If you just start the film it defaults to the French subtitles and if you click the sub button on your remote it shows as 1/2 French...but you can't choose the other option which is English. I had to restart the film (only watched about 2 minutes attempting to figure it out) and discovered this anomoly in the menu. At least, that's how it worked on my Oppo.
Th even better news is that this looks fantastic on blu, deep rich colors, fine grain, and good shadow detail. This just blows my old Artificial Eye DVD out of the water! I always disliked the Kino editions so purchsed the AI sets years ago...and hoped that someday his early films would be released on blu. I also scratched out a few words about the film on my blog, if interested (beware spoilers). |
