Germany The Boogey Man (1980).

Made by Al!ve and CMV Laservision.

As far as I know this blu-ray is only available through D&T Mailorder.
There are four different covers.
1
2
3
4

The blu-ray comes with the film's original soundtrack/score on cd.

The back cover lists the features as follows.
-English and German Dolby Digital 2.0 audio tracks.
-1080p 1.78:1 aspect ratio.
-82 minutes (the original uncut running time).
-New hd transfer from the original negative.
-Commentary with Uli Lommel.
-Interview with Uli Lommel.
-TV Spots.
-American trailer.
-German trailer.
-Trailers for Bloodnight and Alien 2: On Earth.
-Animated interactive menus.

I just received this in the mail today (cover #1), I have yet to watch the blu-ray (due to sending my defective drive out for replacement), but until I do I can give impressions on the cd and packaging.

First off the packaging is excellent, it's digibook style (without the booklet inside), but the front and back cover is really nice and sturdy, high gloss images. The way the cd and blu-ray are stored inside is really nice as well, in fact I hope every company starts to package multiple disks this way. When you open up the case/book it looks as if there's one disk, it's the cd, but the half that holds the cd in snaps out (it's snapped in place) and the blu-ray is cased underneath. I'll post some pictures later.

The cd is of a really high quality, the soundstage is excellent (which is great for a horror score), and it's very clear, nice separation as well. This is through my Sennheiser HD598 headphones.

Well, I just ordered a second blu-ray drive, because I suspect I may be waiting a while for my replacement, so hopefully I can check and give caps and impressions within the week.

Here are some pics of the packaging, excuse the quality (and the rust on the table; I bought the paint, just haven't gotten around to fixing it), this isn't my own camera and it's on auto settings.

The transferred from the negative and soundtrack cd swung it for me, just ordered cover A. Out of stock unfortunately, but hope it gets to me in Germany before I leave..

By the way, the soundtrack will receive its CD debut in limited edition form in the US this Winter. I'll be buying that too!

Anyone know if there are forced subs on this, I doubt it but doesn't hurt to ask!

My new blu-ray drive should be arriving by Saturday, I have to do some PC maintenance first (have re-install Windows yet again, something went wrong last time, had glitches, so I'm doing a full format and install), but hopefully I'll have screencaps, impressions, and region info by Sunday.

EDIT: The new drive came in today, so I'll check the region and picture quality (though I updated to Catalyst 12.6 which is inferior to my standard 11.5 video quality wise) before I re-format and install.

Ok, it's not region free, seems to be region locked as when I turned Anydvdhd off it wouldn't play for more than a second.
The audio selections are dolby digital 2.0 German, dd 2.0 English, and the commentary, all are 384 kbps and actually sound nice.
No forced subs.

I have been having computer problem (including display drivers and settings), so I don't want to make any real impressions about the video quality in motion, but from what I could tell it looked really good, black levels and colors were nice, three dimensional depth seemed nice, will not judge grain and fine details until I re-install windows and programs.

Screencaps (which look even nicer before uploading them).

Fixed my PC, runs better than ever now. Watched a chunk of The Boogey Man with the new Total Media Theater 5.3 and the grain is intact and pleasing in motion.

I have to pinch myself that one of my favourite 80's spookers has been released as a seriously special - special edition blu ray.

Honestly, a choice of special packaging alternate covers, the criminally unreleased (on CD) soundtrack, a transfer from the original negative, with grain intact. Ok, I'm geeking out here but damn it feels like Halloween already!
