Default Mission Impossible 4 terrible quality

After reading all the 5 star ratings on the pq, I'm very disappointed in what I've seen. All during the movie and especially at the end the black are severely digitized and fade in and out. Did I get a bad transfer or are others seeing this. It's not an equipment issue so how does no one else who rated this movie see this?

I felt the same way. I've got some BLUs in my collection with some amazing PQ. When I watched MI4, I was very disappointed in the PQ. To me, it barely looked better than DVD.

Might be your TV settings. Sharpness and dynamic contrast can do this. Your Brightness control may also be off as this controls the lowest level of visible black.

My projector is calibrated. Like I said, it is not an equipment issue.

That's exactly what I said. I was wondering if I put the dvd in by mistake but I didn't. I've watched dvd's that looked better.

Just bought my copy yesterday on Amazon for $9.99, but I won't get it for quite some time yet. However, regardless of PQ, I'll be happy having my complete Mission Impossible Blu-ray set complete with the latest installment at that price.

Same here. And I know it's not an equipment issue. My plasma can delivery stunning PQ - literally make you feel as if you can reach into the TV and touch the actors. But this BLU fell flat to me. Still enjoyed the film, but would have liked a much better PQ.

Do not know what is causing the problem with your setup. You are using a projector. Looks fine on my 63" plasma.

Might go try and swap out the disc. Maybe there was a bad batch. It's pretty hard to miss. I'll report back with what i find.

A different disc is not going to make a difference as far as PQ. I haven't seen the Blu, but I saw this movie in the theater and despite a good print, the image was nothing great.

I am going to sound soooo dumb in a second but....

...I got MI4 a few months ago. Was very excited, opened up the blu ray package (comes with the dvd) and I grab the disc on the right where the blu ray is typically kept, ignoring the disc on the left (usually the dvd) entirely. Tossed the disc in w/o looking too closely (it said Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol right on the disc, good enough for me!). Anyway, the disc starts up and goes through the typical menus, and right into the movie. I am sitting there in the opening 5 minutes thinking: "OMG, this looks like crap. Nothing like what I say in theaters! Digital noise and the PQ was soft. WTF?" I then look at my reciever expecting to see the Dolby Tru HD 7.1 logo but I see Dolby Digital 5.1 instead. At that point I think to myself "Wait a sec...." and grab the MI4 case....

So, long story short, on my copy of MI4 the blu ray is on the left hand side under the insert that comes with the movie and the dvd is on the right. So, there is a good chance, that if you bought this you did the same thing I did. Check your cases kids, and look under the insert, its possible you grabbed the dvd instead of the blu ray. Of course, I wouldn't know anyone silly enough to do that....nope...not at all....

I made that mistake with Despicable Me the other day. I was putting in for my daughter and didn't even notice that I put in the DVD instead of the BD since they look almost identical. Universal's laziness when it comes to disc art is annoying at times.

You don't sound dumb at all. It's an easy mistake to make. The only reason it has never happened to me is because I always make sure to take the DVD out of the case immediately and set it aside to give to a friend. And I always make certain that I'm not gonna be giving my friend the Blu-ray!

If anything, you are proving yourself smart for realizing the error so quickly. Most would just go back to the store and complain, get an exchange, and find themselves doing it all again.

Wha? Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol looks amazing on my 55" plasma and is borderline reference material. To call it barely better or on par with DVD is silly.

If it weren't for the possibility of your set-up not being calibrated properly I would think you were trolling saying that.
