Hey guys, just thought I'd throw this out there. An old local friend of mine from my school days is an actor up in Chicago now and his first independent film is on the verge of being released. It's called Heaven Is Hell as the title suggests. It's a story about a young woman who suddenly and tragically dies and awakes in an alternate reality...a kind of Purgatory, if you will, that is cross between a horror film setting and a post-apocalyptic "after people" reality, where a band of Disciples led by my old friend (the big guy with the Thompson SMG in the trailer), fighting off a band of mutants, zombies, etc. Looks pretty cool, actually. Here's the Teaser Trailer:
Oh, his FaceBook ID is "Christopher Marcum", and he has some still production photos on his page. Last edited by Lincoln6Echo; 07-22-2012 at 02:46 AM. |

If you go to his Facebook Photo album, he's got a bunch of on-set pics which give a little more insight as to what the film will be like. Apparently, they shot most of the film in the delapidated area of Gary, IN, literally using the old destroyed Union Station as a set.

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty shocked by how it looked. It has some great cinematography and some phenominal effects with decent make-up. I'll also be honest and say the film looks like it's going to feature some awful acting and the storyline hits me as a bit student film-esque with the idea of purgotary, but who knows, if he's put a lot of effort into it and planned out all the visuals to mean something in a sense, I can't see why this couldn't work as a decent low budget fair. I'd be proud of myself if I made something that looked that good

Anyway, Chris was a year older than me in school (Class of '90). Was friends with a couple of my neighborhood friends that were in his class as well. (One of those friends now runs a Tikibar type of thing down in Keywest, and Chris may be down there right now visiting, as per his FB postings.) Back in '85, he was in my mother's Gifted Program (mother was a teacher, taught 6th, K, and 3rd grades, and also Gifted), and he and several other kids (in Junior High at the time), all went in our brand new '85 Suburban up to Bloomington, IL (Illinois State University) for a Gifted Competition deal. On a side, note, one of the other kids in that group is now the Illinois Congressman from his District here, just west of us. We joked back then, that someday he'd run for President. But back to this film, I don't know what kind of distribution it's supposed to get. Hopefully more than just a SyFy showing. Just have to see once longer trailers are released and whether or not it gets any press. |
