Well Fright Night had a remake and Sony still shipped that to freaking TT instead of releasing it themselves last year.

I'm hoping with some box office success with 21 Jump Street and Amazing Spider-Man that Sony is finally in the black enough to start putting more emphasis on their catalog titles. If anything, they can try to capitalize on the popularity of Jessica Lange on American Horror Story as an excuse to put Tootsie out, along with the fact that it was at one point their highest grossing movie.

Don't get me wrong: I very much hope you're right. Sony has a ton of titles that I'm interested in.

It just really frustrates me that the company that started this format has pretty much abandoned it.

This would be the year to do it, being the 30th anniversary (like Annie). I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced for a Nov/Dec release. The question is, will it be Sony or Twilight Time that delivers it?

Nuh,not TT for sure.I asked them about possibility of releasing Tootsie this year, and they said they would love to,but,it's not on their schedule for 2012..and further.
Hopefully,Sony will release it

I would think it's got a better chance of being licensed to Criterion, frankly.

If Sony didn't have much faith in AGAIG, why release Tootsie? It's almost 15 years older.

I had the Criterion Laserdisc, it had a great Sydney Pollack commentary. Not sure if it was same for the SONY DVD. It would be great if a new documenatry was produced in honor of Sydney. Pretty much all the cast members are still around.

Tootsie IMO is a more iconic movie.

What are you basing that on?

The thread in the Germany section that announced this and the other Sony titles where they talk about how 99% of Sony's German releases are locked. I don't have a region-free player so it's still wishlist to me.

Whoever said that is mistaken, most are region free.

edit: Who said that btw, I didn't see anyone in that thread mentioning that 99% are locked

I hope its true. I've lost all patience with Sony in the US and if Tootsie is region-free, I don't mind importing it because its either that, or waiting for the inevitable Twilight Time release that would cost more than the import. It isn't like the Disney titles that are out elsewhere but I know will eventually come out here.

"This will be great news for Region B/region free owners -- but I wonder if they will be region locked, which of course would make TT's releases still viable in Region A North America (the primary market they're geared towards anyway)."

"you would think that logic would dictate that these would be Region B locked."

Nobody confirmed they are region-locked... but it looks like the general consensus belief is that they are likely going to be locked. So as someone without a region-free player, I'm not taking the risk to preorder it until confirmation.

Never seen this movie but I hear that it's suppose to be good. Would probably pick it up on blu if it ever came out.
